An old mate of mine recently came and saw him, and i noticed he had an el i think so i checked it out. When i opened the hood, i noticed some stuff that looks like been leaking ..Its not coming from the welsh plugs and he says its running fine, not using water and the fluids not milky..so i guess it can't be head gasket?

it is a very common problem from ea to ba with leaking head gaskets, like that photo.ef and el are the worst.the original head gaskets were poorly constructed.either when replacing the head gasket replace it either with a au or graphite style head gasket.

Also au didnt have this problem of leaking head gaskets, they usually crak heads along the cam tunnel.

as for your mates head i would keep and eye on it,it wont take long beofre it does blow the gasket.

in the past 2 weeks i have done 2 head gaskets on eb falcons and a set on a vs v6 engine.

one of the falcon headgaskets was that badly worn out that when you picked it up it fell to pieces, plus the head on this vehicle needed to be welded up in some of the water jackets.

Looks like the head gasket to me, but also may have a slight warp in the head. Had the same problem on my Fairmont, was leaking all along the exhaust side of the block but wasnt mixed with the oil. Pulled the head off and it looked like the gasket blew through the water jacket areas.

Got the head machined replaced the head and over the last few weeks its slowly been leaking again and it hasnt even been a month . Hoping its just f**k headbolts

But yeah if he does replace the head gasket, it'll be safe to get the head skimmed just to rule out any warping and add a little more comp

i have had three efs/els and they always seem to leak outside not inside. around the 3 or 4 spot on the exhaust side

I wouldnt have a clue on how long it would last, mine lasted for months without casuing any major issues apart from losing coolant, but it never mixed with oil so i was lucky

The leak does look a bit worse than mine though, just a bit though, so i would try and get it fixed before it gets worse. Took me 2 days or so cause i had to get the head sent away to get machined but you should be able to get it done it a day if its just a gasket replacement
