I was examining my spare intake manifold and noticed this blanking on it near the throttle body mounting plate.
Can anyone tell me what it is and why it is there? All I can think of is "what a great place to install nitrous!"

if you going to use a single fogger that is not a good place to put it.
It's far better off going in the pipe before the TB. Direct port you would put the under the manifold just be port |

ok so let me just say right now that the nitrous thing was a joke
but seriously, can someone tell me what an EGR is, and why the production manifold that went into thousands of cars still has the casting for it?

Production manifolds also came out with them because it is cheaper to keep the mould, rather than making another mould omitting that certain part. It's all about cost cutting. That's why most parts in the E-series models are interchangeable...improvements are made with the use of existing products.
