Hi guys, I'm new to the forums. I'm just curious what muffler I should delete on my 2002 Au Tickford Ute. If I delete a certain muffler will it drone? I will order a catback with whatever muffler deleted from it. Just wanting to know if removing a certain muffler will make my Ute drone or not. Thanks in advance.

Remove the back one sounds good but if you delete the front one it will drone believe me I know.

Removing either muffler will result in droning at certain RPM.
THAT's why the factory fitted them!

Do it right & buy a sports system. At least you won't get bored with it & you won't piss your neighbors off!

This is what it sounds like when you delete the front muffler, mind you this has competition pacemakers and venom cat though. I ordered the front muffler after the first drive in it.

Johhny, the barra is no comparison to the AU intech motor.

Trust me, the AU sounds good with a muffler delete.... for about the first day, then you have to live with it, & your neighbors & everyone else.

I have an AU2 fairmont, fresh built xr6 engine, pacey headers & 2.5" sports system fitted.
It sounds like it should without the annoying drone... at any RPM.

My stepdad complained that (when I had the deleted rear muffler) it hurt his ears due to wearing hearing aids & at certain RPM I couldn't even here my stereo, complete with 12" sub.

1 more tip, weld in a small bit of steel to join the front muffler to the tailpipe.
This stops it flexing & it won't snap the tailpipe housing from the muffler body.

Rust belt, yes certainly is a bit different from the AU to barra, but in saying that my old xg engine had pacemakers high flow cat, custom exhaust with rear muffler deleted, and in that case I much preferred it custom exhaust to factory and I think it even improved performance ever so slightly.

It just dawned on me that you mentioned my neighbors being p****d off at said"similar exhausts etc..." My XG Barra with side exit isn't as loud as my neighbors bloody Holden V8 with no cats and no exhaust at all" so I don't worry about it too much as we're both basically trying to get a similar performance result....

I'm lucky too that my nearest neighbor is a ford buff & we have 5 onsite between us (2 unit complex)
Your neighbor sounds like my cousin...LS1 ute with fruit. YES, we ALL have a neighbor like that!

Honestly, I'd rather listen to a 'Stang or LS than a muffless AU. I've been there, maybe I'm just getting too old ?

Ha yeah true,I love a nice sounding engine but without the unnecessary noise just for noise sake, yep definitely different as we get older hey.
