I have an EA and an EL. and yes the EL is much better then the EA. The ea had many problems in the past and after about 3000 bux over 3 years it seems to run fine but the lack of power. currently leaking oil in both tranny and engine i think. u might want to look at the wiring at the battery termnial. the wires at that age start to corrode and everything just starts to fall to bits.......i lost about 4 wires through corrosion which in turn caused many other problems when the car was running or not running. dizzy stuff upped on me. steering is really good which is a thumbs up, car stilll moves, rust in certain areas but all in all it has given me heaps of problems and not worth fixing up unless i win the lottery. still drive it though =D starting to burn rubber with it since i got the EL for show
all i gotta say tell him to get an EB AT LEAST if not pull out an extra 2000 and u can get a good ED or even an EF.......and my tranny is a 3 speed.....shocker on the freeway doing 2500 revs GRRR. hope that helped. phong =P~

It will probably be pissing oil from every gasket & seal in the thing! (mine does!)
Problems for the model as other people have noted above. Is this dude mechanically minded? EA's are well past their use by date, becoming cop bait and will require a fair bit of effort to keep in tip top shape. I also own an EF Gli - compared to the EA it's hard to believe they were designed and built by the same company.... A cheap car is maybe not as cheap as you think with go-go water hitting $1.20L (in Melbourne anyway - wonder which way it will go when "The Games" are on?) The later models will be more fuel efficient. But don't expect too much - any falcon is a big heavy mumma that can chew juice in the wrong hands! (should that be feet?)

thats why my wife shopped for a 5 speed so when my EL gets the rest of its work done we can still get around with it .

Well, as soon as i saw it i saw the arial blank on the back corner. that was driving past at 50k's. he didn't even notice that! 3 speed auto, CPI, originally owned by Tas Police! Not a single fkn leak, mark or tear on it! Only 150,000k's (less than my EF!!), rode nicely, typical EA handling and braking, but i couldn't fault the f***er! For a CPI, i was impressed.
I'll try and get some photos cause he bought it - once he sees something he wants, he gets. This is what he bought when i told him NOT to buy it!

She's an ex cop and it doesn't even have a single scratch or ding in the interior? Holy s**t, this thing is RARE. A TAS cop pack with a spotless interior...didn't even think they existed... Oh well, if he's happy with her, that's the main thing hey? |

Go for the mpfi and if he likes it to be fast, definately go the 5-speed manual. problems ive had to fix are: replacing my brake master cylinder, about a gran fixing the suspension, had to replace the rear muffler and at the moment, my gears are slipping really badly and my car overheats now and then. I'm refusing to spend another cent on it till i get my new car as i've realised my repair bills could have amounted to about 4 EA's off ebay. So like was said before, at least go for an EB.
do you mean the EBI or EBII? What difference other than the grille is between the EAII and EBI?

EA's had their ford badges set into the bonnet, and EB's had their badges set into the actual grille. And EA's have like three horizontal slits in their c-pillars and EB/D's don't.

Ummm, what's with the quarter window behind the door? It was a "dual cab". Registered 5 seater, with Coupe interior. Converted about a year or two after the original owner bought it. Had the 302 with 351 running gear.

Gotta admit - first I've seen/heard of it...
Always wanted a ute where the seat goes back far enough for my long legs (without the backrest in the "Mr Bean" position)... Be a nice project car if you were a panel beater! (Shudders at thought of what else could be wrong with it...)
