the 4.0 EB and ED will fit straight on, the EF EL and AU covers will require a new gasket only (to suit the cover)
the reason for this is simple, the EA-Ed covers are flat bottom'd and have a semi circle plug which sits on the head at either end, the EF EL and AU are not flat bottom'd so a new gasket to suit the new cover is all that is needed |

and if useing the ef el type you'll need the bolts for them as well.

you can get around the bolt issue buy using 3 sets of 4 of those washers with the rubber seal, done it about 3 times now on different cars and none of them seep oil from the rocker cover

Gentleman I have a 3.9 1990 head and an EL now the semi circle plug in the 3.9 is a differnt shape and width to the 4.0 litre rocker box. Plus the 4.0 liter EL box hasn't got the screw hole for the 3.9 CFI aircleaner and the spark plug lead clips are at the back instead of the front of the 4.0 litre rocker box.
So, not exactly a straight hassle free swap. The different shape semi circle in both front and back of the head seem to be the biggest hassle as far as sealing the differnce in shape between rocker box and head goes. |

i have a EL rockercover on an ED head no problems, there are gromments ect to make these fit, and then leads dont have to be 100% neat on the cover, if you have CFI id change it to MPFI while your there, its not that hard to do - problems solved
