Havin a few problems with cold starts lately, car seems to have a reduced fuel flow in the mornings causing it to hesitate, revs die down then jump up etc... So i decided to call Repco and price coolant temp sensor and intake air temp sensor and they're trying to get me for $350 fot the IAT and $180 for the coolant sensor? After reading threads on here im supposed to be looking at $40 odd right for the IAT? Where do i get these without having to refinance my home? Rip Every Poor C**t Off, right!

***PROBLEM SOLVED***
New oxy sensor off ebay $67, new coolant temp sensor from Ford $72 problem completely fixed for those with the same problem.

Around Liverpool. Another question does anyone have the test voltages for these sensors? My repair manual doesnt seem to have them, but at that price id rather be sure. Bursons want $220 for the IAT same as Fairford Spares.

are your revs dying and jumping around as you are taking off or when you are in park? Is there flat spot then it jumps back to life?

I havn't yet worked out how the computers at repco come up with there prices, there is some formulas depending on what type of product it is and it's buy price, also the region in Australia (e.g. Tas prices are higher than say Melbourne).

For example the other weekend I ordered a new part from Clarion that had never been on our system before. While I can't say what our buy price is, when I entered that info into the system it decided that the retail price should be $320.00 (the computer decides this straight away, doesn't require any additional input such as manufacturers RRP or competitors price). Looked on the Clarion website and there RRP is $89.95!

A while ago Repco was bought out by from what I've been told, some international mob (Asians I think).
Since then some changes have been made. 1 of the first was to remove employees ability to override prices, only managers (including Account managers and 2IC) have the ability now, and they're even limited by there possition - e.g. a 2IC may be limited to overriding a maximum of 30% off.

They've also put the 'we won't be beaten on price' thing up - however it has to be the exact same item, same brand and model, which is great for Repco since a fair few of there brands are exclusive to Repco, and so they'll never have to match price on them...

With that said, there are certain items that are still good value. E.g. Narva light globes, or the door handles for XF's etc.

To explain the problem simply, its like theres no auto choke, the carstarts poorly sometimes taking 2-3 attempts to have it fire and run without feathering the pedal, then while warming up, almost stalls then the revs jump up. Im sure there's a fault with the sensor controlling this.

ISC's working fine, ive cleaned it out, it's not seized up. Ive done the coil packs, leads, plugs, fuel pump, injectors, fuel reg, fuel filter and still no love. it has to be something simple like a relay/sensor etc...

The IAT in an AU is part of the MAP/Intake temp sensor unlike E series where they are seperate.
This would explain the high price.

I steer clear of repco, bursons, supercrap as much as possible, I buy oil at Big-W and my Parts from independent retailers. ie: small private owned spare parts outlets.

They usually have the main parts, worthy staff and know what your talking about.

Other than sub woofers, GPS's, $90 Philips import globes, stickers and bling.

You know you've found a good parts store if they know what a carburetor is and have parts for it.

Its rare for a MAP/IAT on an AU to be faulty, unlike the earlier Eseries unless its been damaged in some way or the engine has heaps of km's & starting to use oil then your getting blowby & contaminating the sensor, a MM that reads Hz will do the trick as the sensor is digital or if your lucky enough a labscope also check the O2 sensor when its cold & see if its doing whats its supose to open/closed loop, also check the injector m/s inconjuntion with the O2 reading more when cold less when @ norn temp the AU's are normaly pretty good, these check are obviasly done when all basic checks have been carried out.....
