Sourcing the harmonic balancer for a 96 EF2 Fairmont. Mine seems to have delimanated or something. The front part has moved forward and thrown the belt. I can see the timing gear thingy behind it now.
The guy sourcing my parts for me says there are two sizes available. Not sure why that would be. He says they're both for the 6. The two options are 31.7 or 31.76 (mm?) Anyone know which one I want or is there a way I can figure it out without stripping it down first? Cheers Steve |

According to the parts list, there is only one type of damper listed for the i6, Ford #EF 6316 B
The V8 one is listed as: #E4TZ 6316 A and is a different shape entirely. I am assuming that the size you are quoting refers to the shaft size? I really cannot see how .06 (.003") of a mm can make a huge difference, as the damper is only a slight interference fit anyway, and has a key-way as well. Maybe ask the salesman why the two are listed, or see if you can contact the manufacturer and ask? |

Hi [parts guy] I rang Repco. They told me I need this one - but when I look up the supplier's website it is not listed for my vehicle. HB1073N Harmonic Balancer $282 (repco price) https://www.sparesbox.com.au/oem-replac ... 33-hb1073n This one looks the same as what I can see and is the one listed for my vehicle from the same supplier. Repco tell me it's $510 (repco price) ex Aus. https://www.sparesbox.com.au/street-har ... -pb1283-st Do you think your source can help further? These might be the two your source is looking at. I need the second one. Certainly don't want to pay $510 though. They are US$99 on ebay. Steve |

Hi [parts guy]. Do you have the second hand equivalent of option 2? I'm just not sure how many more warrants the car will pass so wondering if its wise to spend a third of what the car cost getting it fixed. If you have a good second hand balancer I'd be quite keen on that along with the new belt.

yes have a second hand unit at home ..$45 and ill pick up belt tomorrow Cheers ------ Sounds good. Let me know the total cost plus same day/3hr courier and I'll transfer the money to you. I still have your bank account details. The plan is to get AA to tow it to the mechanic's tomorrow. Hopefully with the parts. He's doing the work on Saturday morning and my motorbike is off the road too so I have no other way of getting stuff to him. Thanks for all your help. Sorry it's been so back and forth. |

He then overnight sent me the totally wrong pulley [attached photo] and the belt that isn't listed for my car and doesn't even fit the pulley he sent. Cancelled the tow and apologised to my mechanic.
Time to get a new parts guy and go back to the drawing board. In the mean time my wife and 14 month old are stuck at home. Also, don't know why things seem to cost twice as much here as in Oz :-/

Harmonic Balancer you have pictured is for an EA to ED Falcon.
Is this what they sent you? I wouldn't use that except for scrap. Part you require is HB1283N Dayco - Powerbond Balancer Ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dayco-Powerb ... SwDNdVzJrC The first one you parts supplier listed is for an EB - ED, not EF Second one listed is a high performance unit - overkill. Belt required is a 6PK2350 (I prefer Gastes Belts) Ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gates-V-Ribb ... Sw7FRWaQmn |

Gates catalog lists 55 as being the correct one. I've no idea what the 65 he sent me is for.... |

Just spoke to Supercheap Auto who have a calibre brand 6PK2370 listed for the non aircon (?) version of the vehicle and 6PK2355 for the aircon version, which they don't have in stock.
They tell me the last two numbers are the length of the belt in mm. So I'm guessing the 6PK2365 is 10mm longer than the listed one but perhaps it will tighten up ok depending on how much adjustment is available. Does anyone know how much movement the adjuster provides? |

Gates list 3 sizes that fit, 6PK2350, 6PK2355 and 6PK2360. 6PK2350 is the correct size and you can get away with 6PK2355. 6PK2360 will reduce the adjustment with the tensioner. kiwisteveb wrote: Just spoke to Supercheap Auto who have a calibre brand 6PK2370 listed for the non aircon (?) version of the vehicle and 6PK2355 for the aircon version, which they don't have in stock. SWC wrote: There won't be enough adjustment for the 6PK2370. Some catalogues list this as a replacement to the EF/EL I6 with A/C. I've been running this length for many years without incident - the tensioner has around same travel either way. A new belt only just fits over the P/S pulley with the tensioner at min belt length. A 6PK2350 would be a tight fit I would think.
