ok cool, most people on here think that it will make the ecu run ruch as it thinks its warming up hence more fuel but not the case with u which is good. Going to test my car and see if its the same case.

Id try flushing it first and use normal water and see if its still the same and if it is id replacing my radiator, rather pay under $400.00 for a new radiator fully installed than $1000.00 for a headgasket plus the radiator will need replacing becuz of age and that fact that ford didnt do a good job cleaning the block hence the radiator getting blocked over time.

is there any way you can just clean the raidiator it self out maybe a compresser or high pressure water ?

I think u can do it that way but not 100% sure, my radiator joint said to come and service/clean out the radiator every 12-18 months to clean them out. Reason for that is there might still be crap in the cooling system and they take out the radiator and clean it some how.

my el futura fans coming on straight away at start; temp gauge barely gets above "C"....
thermostat stuck open? what sort of damage can this do? could this affect idle/revs? |

After reading this thread, what is a safe temp to stick at, in diagnostic mode, mine is below the L most the time, except it goes to the A in the city after 1/2 hour with A/C on and 30 plus outside temp.
I'll go in diagnostic mode and check it tommorrow to see what is says. |

if you really want to keep an eye on your cooling system put ur hand in ur pocket and buy a guage. they're cheap enough these days. ford guages aren't calibrated exactly the same from car to car let alone model to model. apart from that from ea to el the normal is upside down.
and for the people using 'coolant' it would be helpful to add wether its glycol or equivilant coolant/additive or basic coolant/inhibitor

my temp hardly even moves from the bottom what could be causing this?

98 XH panelvan, gauge sits at the R-O mark.
Original rad, pump, hoses, etc. Clamps still have the factory torque shear caps on them. New genuine 91deg thermostat, as the old one stuck closed. Runs hot when under load. Cools down when idling. 97 EL V8 wags , gauge sits same as above, R-O mark. Cooling system has been worked on extensively before me - new waterpump, new Rad, missing half of air dam (has been cut away.), and missing plastic cover across front of radiator support panel. Header tank rust covered, but has good coolant in it. Had no thermostat, ran at 100-106deg under load. Cooled down at idle. Fitted 88deg Tridon (motorad) thermostat, still runs at 100-106deg under load. Cools down to 89-91degrees after 15mins idling, and maintains that temp whilst idling. Temps taken from dash diagnostic mode, an independant digital temperature gauge and a handheld non-contact laser temp gauge. (all were accurate to within a few degrees of each other.) |

Mine rarely goes above L.
Car bought s/h a few months ago, looks like a standard radiator (and transmission cooler).
