Hi everyone, just wondering what tools I should go out and get cos I do not have what I need as far as I know, so what do you recommend I need to get a cylinder head off (plus the manifolds).
Also is it worth converting from a standard ED head to a EF Tickford head? thanks |

Also is it worth converting from a standard ED head to a EF Tickford head? thanks Sockets + accessaries ( 3/8" & 1/2" drive), spanners, Tension wrench, 24" to 30" breaker bar, a deep 14mm impact socket, tooling for removing & installing the camchain tensioner.....cleaning gear/scrappers, etc.....Workshop manual. All are metric. VRS Gasket set, and a set of new head bolts, ACL Hylomar (spray pack), Grey Maxx RTV or Toyota Black RTV.....stuff for cleaning ( degreaser, carby spray, etc) Tickford head has bigger exhaust valves and a better cam.

10mm ratchet spanner helps, 24" breaker bar and a 14mm single hex impact socket. also a 10mm single hex socket as some of the rocker bolts can be tight. there are other tools you'll need but they are the main ones

Can I use 1/4 inch drive/sockets to remove the head bolts? or does it have to be 1/2 inch?
Thanks |

Your 1/4 drive set wont be in usable condition if you try and undo the head bolts with it.. youll snap your ratchet for sure, use 1/2,

I'm new to doing this kind of stuff and still learning about both cars and tools as I go along, so I'm sorry to be asking all the stupid questions. |

If you don't know..........DON'T. Get someone that knows what they are doing and assist them and learn.

I don't have a manual and I don't want to strip anything LOL Hi, Left hand thread is only used for either rotating parts that may come loose in use, or for Toxic Gas fittings. No offence, but it may be beyond you to do on your own. Get a friend or someone than can help, and learn from them. Even if you pay for the job, still cheaper than if you make a mess of it.
