Thinkin of having a go at rebuilding an ED XR6 diff. Cant be that hard...
Other than the usual sockets and torque wrench, anyone know what special tools are required?

If you've never done it before or seen how is done, don't do it. It'll cost you dear.

You need a spreader tool for the housing, a spring tension gauge to check preloading and a dial gauge to check backlash and as mentioned prusion blue to check meshing.
You may or may not need a pinion preload spacer if you are not swapping gears and same with the spacers on the main bearings.

Thanks for the tips, appreciate that...
Yes there is a bit to learn and maybe it will cost a bit to buy tools, mistakes, etc but i think i will have a go... the trouble with car maintenance has always been finding a shop you can rely on to do a proper job. The diff in my car is noisy as and it was 'professionally' rebuilt a year ago.

Sometimes with high milage diff gears, they need to be relapped, thats the only way to get them to stop making a noise.
