I got an ef fairmont, cold air induction, 2.25 exhaust and extractors, with chiptorque chip. I did a cam change and chip at the same time. Didnt feel any different (would rev out easier but didnt seem to pull harder), but the dyno says I got 25rwkw.

I put 3.9's in my diff the other week and couldn't be happier. The difference over the old 3.23 gears was definately noticable. Although I do use 5th gear a lot more now. IMO, 4.1's would be a tad high, especially if your car is an auto. 1st gear is already short enough with the 3.9's.

i say get a standard BW lsd, as for the ratio, all the opinions are already her leave 9" for muscle cars hi question one ???? can you turn over a 9 in differential at the joke end with your hands? can you turn over a 9 in differential at the axle flange end with your hands ? next can you turn a ford 6 cylinder inline with out the spark plugs in the head with you hands ? HOW MUCH POWER DOES A NINE INCH DIFFERENTIAL ABSORB ??? cya

stockstandard wrote: yeah, IMO 9" is massive overkill for a 6. From a strength perspective, you dont often hear of someone breaking a 28 spline BW, and there are enough ratios available. Not as much parts available as 9", but there isnt a shortage.
my preference for ratios: 3.45 for street, 3.7 for street/strip, and 3.9 for strip. sorry to be an a**, but I just broke my 28 spline diff... just to add to the list of rareness lol. Cheers

a 9" has more mass which drains more power to turn it.
i am sorry, i dont know how much power it absorbs, but inline with my original statement, ANY IS TOO MUCH

Is tha tthe current one? No, thats the NJ-NL, with some getting a 4.9:1 ratio... and you can else obtain 5.1:1 gears, which are only necessary for 34" tyres. However I do believe the current pajero has diff ratio in the 4:1 region... An air locker is only good up to a certain speed, in our case its not wise to exceed 80km/hr or damage to the centre may occur... 80km/hr is just getting out of first in an auto falcon!

How many diffs have a joke end on them?
Maybe you meant to hit the Y key, you know the one up a row and to the left of the J, between the T and the U... Can you turn over a 1200cc 4cyl with your hand without the spark plugs in? Probably not, so whats that got to do with the price of your mum in beijing? Simple fact is the standard diff in our current fords can cope with a s**t load of torque, look at the BA for example, 550Nm from the typhoon and the diff is probably unchanged. XR6ts running around with 400rwkw and probably 800+ Nm with a standard diff. 9" is old school and not necessary with todays technology...

not a good example, the BA xr8's and above are popping the back ends on a regular basis

Ive heard of a few, but not the way your portraying it...
Either way, you dont see to many live axles in production cars these days, so the trusty old 9" is only going to be fitted to a resto, or a V8Supercar, or some yobo living in the 70s wanting to fit it to his 90s vehicle

The BA RTV's, do they have a speed limit when the diff is locked? Is that an air locker? |
