the stall/torque converter is to an automatic transmission what a clutch is to a manual gearbox. A 2500 stall converter means that is will lock at 2500 rpm.

A high stall is kind of like letting the clutch out at higher rpm in a manual - helps engine get into the power band quicker

a hi stall is just a modified stall converter. Its the "clutch" that sits between the motor and transmission. Generally, the stall speed specifies how many rpm the motor will do with the transmission locked up. So if you put the car in drive, put the brakes on, and increase the revs till they stop, then this is your stall speed. They are tailor made to suit the car. they allow the engine revs to rise more before the car starts to move as it allows more slip. One thing to note, is that the stall speed varies with the power being made. the more power, the more slip, the higher rpm

think of a stall convertor like a autp clutch.

Basically the high stll lests the rpm get higher before they grip.
My rule is to have stall set at same RPM as the cam begins to make power.
The car will still drive the same until you lay the boot in and then is will work more.
stally is useless on a stock motor.

A Hi-stall is basically a performance version of your standard torque converter and is usually used in mild to wild performance cars for better 'off the line" launches.

"Stall" Speed (like 2500rpm) is basically the RPM speed at which the converter will hold back or limit the engine when the trans is prohibited. By not allowing the engine further RPM gain, the increase in engine RPM “stalls” or in other words, ceases to increase.

“stall” speed is basically linked between the engines ability to produce power and the torque converters ability to hold the RPM back.

hope this helps or may even confuse you more LOL

you want your stall speed to be around the rpm of where your car starts to make maximum torque.

JMM hi stalls are just re-badged Pro-converters anyhow. They just put a sticker on it, double the price and claim its their own.
Its not all that great either to be honest.. I got rid of my one from JMM for something more robust.

I fitted a 2500 Dominator stall to a 351C N/A and I'm not impressed with it. It slips around to 3300 in drive at about 60kmh, so its not very direct as in driving the car along, which is an XD sedan. Has a C10F shift kitted auto, and a 3.25 LSD 9" diff. The same happens at a 100kmh, doing about 2500 to 2700 @ 100, then floor it, goes up to 3300, and still in drive.
