well truenos drift in competition levels without turbos It has nothing to do with turbos man. |

In australia the drifting to what i can remember is scored on 3 basic things, Entry into the drift, angle of the drift/speed, and the smoke produced. (or something like that)
But watch robbie bulger in the drift monaro, that thing produces insane amounts of smoke and angle, and he even comes close to passing people mid drift with huge amounts of smoke.

i thought drifting originated from people wanting to go faster round the track by getting into position for the next straight round the corner.
you need HARD HARD suspension, not so much engine power, you needa bit though it's more about driver skill. watch some drifting videos (drift kings tutorial for one) and go out and have a go. Rhyso

drifting is not just sliding through a corner. It's sideways from beginning to end billowing smoke out the back. Sam (Dr Drift) recently impressed many at a drift day using the workshop 80s ute with a locked diff and something like 50kw of power. Its about skill and a capable driver. First mod is to lock the diff. You do not need much power or a good handbrake, you simply need firm suspension and upset the cars balance by throwing it one direction then the other under power and near the edge of losing control. Once the rear wheels are sliding then almost any amount of power will keep them spinning and sliding. |

like drifting started from japan when they do various car racing in the snow and yeah. I reckon drifting started in the 70's by bogans at B & S ball carparks showing off to the sheila's in their HZ utes and panel vans |

hey man just been thinking and that if you go the turbo option setup up the turbo and you injectoion to the "back fire system" or the miss fire system pretty much you just advance or de-advance(????) the timing and that so the car gets fuel in one of the pistons or something and backfires
short story short the idea or theory behind this is that the lag from the turbo is miniimal cause the miss fire suppose to spool the turbo with the escaping exhaust gasses

Dude, just buy a AE86 Trueno in Panda with a black bonnet, Slap a Fujiwara Tofu Shop sticker on the side, change your name to Takumi, and you're set!
I'm surprised nobody had made Initial D jokes yet.. or maybe they did and I missed it.. Damnit, I've probably made an a** of myself.. I tried drifting once. I'm not going to do it again.. Ever. My front bumper has never been the same, and I bent an axle, and a rim, tore the rubber of said rim, smashed a headlight, put the front wheels out of alignment, probably completely f*cked a suspension strut, and to top it all off, I got the f*cker bogged. I watched some Australian Drifting Series on SBS the other week. an AE86 one top prize, and a Monaro got in second. The Monaro was 900+hp. And I was anyway, I'm ending my rambling. |

Take a look at the latest street machine ford. Its got whats called 'DRIF6'. Its an F6 Drift car...hence DRIF6.
Thats an insane car. I have eveything in my pretty much stock. I think there may be a cold opening thermostat in there (82°) so its running rich all the time. But i have no problem getting a drift going. I basically use the weight and the power. Go hard into the corner with no throttle, half way through the corner, gun it and keep it sideways through the corner. But as many people have said before. Stronger suspensions btw that reminds me. i thought my suspension was just hard because thats how ford made them but after driving a EF monty on the week end i realise mines hard and rough. That may contribute to it. I go through the hills to work every weekend and it sits flat on the road with no body roll on 15" stockies. May i also suggest cause 17's are expensive, go get a whole heap of BA and AU tyres cause you can get them cheap ($40 each). Some people here on fordmods may also have some 16" that they replace so you could probably get them to donate them to you instead of paying to get rid of them.

a good base for a drifter is:
~hydrulic handbrake - standard handbrake will be a b**ch to use. ~good suspention setup - stiff swaybar, low spings and heavy duty shocks. ~uprated braking system - mainly the back ~gut the interior - door trim, back steats, spare tyre, roof lining, sound deadner, fluffy dice, neons, nos hks greddy stickers, etc... ~take out un-needed accessories - air con, sterio system, uneeded wiring, etc... ~fit bucket seats - cos' you'll slide as much as the car does if you don't ~cheap rubber - most of the time leads to more smoke ~better trans and/or clutch/stallie --- later on --- ~sponcers ~more power/better equipment if needed |

I agree with the above, its definantly a good place to start. If i was going for a cheap drifter i would start with.
- 5spd (done for you already) - New heavy duty clutch ( as has been discussed) - Lowest springs you get, new shocks, swaybars or coilovers if budget allows - Locked diff with 3.7 gears - Stripped interior - Some sort of cam Thats all fairly cheap and will you get you going alright. Also most drift days has a tyre fitter there to change tyres for you and i think they may also sell 2nd hand tyres too.
