hey guys i just checking my clearances on my tappet to valve and found that there no gap at all times so im assuming it been over shimmed when it had a regrind with last owner.

anyone know the clearances???
for the exhaust and inlet.

any rule that i should be aware of when checking clearances?

0 mate because they're hydraulic.

If they were too tight it would be holding the valves open and you'd soon tell by the way it runs.

I know especially when it a AU engine as well

thats why im checking tappets.

whats the trick you can try if u suspect if your rings are stuffed? spray oil in cylinder before compresion test.

A squirt of oil is to seal the rings, that tells you it's a valve or head prob.

Does the car run ok? Missfire or anything?

if you think yor tappets are at fault just loosen your rocker gear off and re test compression if compression improves you know that they are holding your valves open

it sounds a bit strange to have all 6 cyl that low

did you change the cam or anything like that???
maybe the cam timing is out giving a all round low compression.

my au engine has 210 psi on all cyl..

i just noticed in your sig it says unknown turbo cam?

dont quote me on this but is there a possibility that your cam is profiled for a turbo set up and the valve over lap? or duration? is set in such a way that your compression is ment to be that low so you can run good boost without detonation issues.

im no expert but its a possible your cam could be the answer.
ive seen engines loose compression from a cam that wasnt dialed in properly or an adjustable cam gear that wasnt done up tight enough..

well i could pop out number 1 plug and spin the engine around to TDC and pop rocker cover off and see if the cam gear spot on it TDC spot (to right of head lvl with top of head right?) or if it out by 1 tooth.
should be able to get away with that right? or it not close enough and i have to take off timing cover and line up the crack gear to the point and check?

if it all good then it could be cam over lap or rings or over shimmed

If this unknown cam has a very late closing intake valve it would show up a low reading on a compression gauge. best to find out the cam specs befor getting to worried. or find a stock cam and put it in and do an other test.

Seeing as he supposedly set it up for a turbo, he maybe have dropped the comp ratio too!?!?
