Well soon after i get my new fairmont EL (straight 6) into shape im going to want to do the exhaust to get abit more power, BUT i dont want to have it loud as i have 2 year old, and car trips are most peaceful when the boy is asleep.
so now for the big question. whats the quietest cat back exhaust around? who makes it? redback? lukey? and even better if you do have what you think is the quietest one here please record it and post her up, it would be muchly appreciated. im thinking im the 1st to ask this question. Thanks

quitest would probably be stock ford? if you want a change but have it quiet, then lots of people are unhappy with theirs. Or you can always put another muffler in the system?

Any 2.5" system with front and rear mufflers will be quiet.

A redback with front and rear mufflers is really quiet.

even just a standard 2.5" system with one muffler is quiet really when you are driving sedately, cruising etc, you just get a nice drone from the exhaust, nothing too loud inside the car.

for when i get the new performance cam, but yeah other obvious reason is the sleeper effect dont get me wrong im all about power but iv had my fair share of very loud exhausts... i get to many noise complaints with my prior cars.

yeah your right, my 3" system is quiet and setup the same way. im not sure what brand mufflers its got at the moment (possibly lukey) but its allmost as tho its tuned for 40hz, no high frequency noise at all and low down its still quiet unless you open it up. ive heard it when someone elese is driving it and it is loud but because its low freq its difficult to judge how far away the sound is so it doesnt attract attention. i will be installing custom 1.8" into 3.5" extractors and hiflo cat in about 8 weeks time so it will be interesting to hear what it sounds like then, i just hope its stays the same.

My AU wagon has a 2.5 Redback with front and rear mufflers. I have little kids too, so keeping it quiet was a priority. Happy to say that it is not much louder than standard with only a deeper note to tell the difference. When you plant it naturally it's louder, but cruising around you wouldn't pick it as having an exhaust.
My EL sedan has a redback with 1 muffler and it is much louder - sounds better though, but not really suitable for little kids in the back in my opinion. |
