Hi all.
I have a mate who knows absolutely nothing about cars.He's currently looking at buying a BA ex taxi with 230***km's on the clock.I'm just wondering if he were to buy it would he be looking at a head gasket going anytime in the near future? What else should we be looking at while inspecting this car?(he has plans to look at it this afternoon/evening) Cheers Kathy

From what ive read, and experienced... as good as never. They are nothing like the E series which go all the time.

Why would u get an ex taxi, get a half decent ba or bf, it's probably been around the clock twice

its probably cheap as sin, thats why they wold be looking. A car the ½ a million people have arted in, spewed in sweated in, not all that apppealing to most of the market.
Mention Ex-Taxi and the market gets even shorter. But an Ex-Taxi with ONLY 230,000 km's on it.. sounds fishy like the bankstown job that was on here a week or 2 ago.

so he brought the ex taxi.It really surprised me.Bugger all wear and tear inside.Hardly and rust and 236***kms.Was roughly $3000.We think we have found a slight problem though in the fuel gauge.After putting nearly 16 litres of gas in the gauge didn't move(oh by the way its factory gas).
He's not sure yet if he will keep it as we looked at a manual 1.6L pulsar(trust me he's a d***head and suited to the pulsar).He needs to find out when he gets of his red p's(sat in an auto so stuck in an auto til his greens). But back to the ex taxi.I drove it and was quite happy with it.Its quite and got no noticeable engine noise or other noise either.So we will see how we go.Thanks for the comments guys.

The fuel gauge in my BA was like that when I bought it. Ford eventually found it was set up wrong. As it turns out there are 4 different settings in the computer, sedan,wagon,Ute,and undefined. Mine had been set to undefined from factory. Meaning the gauge didn't know what size tank it was reporting on.

I wouldnt worry about the head gasket, it really is a non issue with AU up.....
With a BA its easier and cheaper to buy another motor as there are plenty about..... I would think its had another cluster unless the condition says otherwise but even that can be cleaned up..... Think mines done around the 800k mark and still original donk.....
