Hi guys, I want to change my cam and springs today.
I was planning on using some extension cord shoved into the spark plug hole and then taking the springs out etc. I was just wondering, how do I know when the piston is at the top? at TDC piston 1 and 6 are at the top, but what about the other 4 cylinders? Or does anybody know where you can buy one of those spark plug / air compressor adaptors from in perth? Last edited by EggHead on Sun May 06, 2007 6:26 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

just take the plugs out and shine a torch in the hole and you will see the piston if its at the top.
just make sure its on compression stroke, should be easy to tell with the rocker cover off. the pistons will work in 3rd i think. eg 1&6 and TDC 3&4? will be at BDC and 2&5 will be half way.

Someone may have one you can borrow locally? firing order for the i6 is 153624 i think, which would mean at 120 degrees from top dead centre when turned in the right direction, cylinders 5 and 2 would be at top, and another 120 degrees would bring 3 and 4 to the top.

Thanks guys, hehehe never thought of using a torch
I was thinking it worked in thirds, but is it necessary for it to be on the compression stroke because I'm not planning on using compressed air? Was just gonna jam as much extension cable into the cylinders as possible then 'hopefully' the valves wont drop into the cylinders. Although the valves wont fall all the way in will they (if a mistake is made)? |

instead of using extension cord..
try using thin rope .. |

i will have a better look for some, tryed using that elastic bungy cord type stuff, but nope.
Plus my sikchrome valve compressor broke, not happy. just the bottom washer thing came apart and I have to hold it together til theres tension. But for now, im hungry. |

ok kewl, yer i got them all off alright.
In case anybody is wondering the cam gear rotates 60 degrees giving another cylinder full compression. |
