As i've posted, I had my car dynoed on Monday. As my car is a manual, and they ran it in 4th gear, she hit the speed limiter before the power backed off.
Going for a bit of a run on a private road of course, i discovered that the speed limiter happens at around 4900rpm in 4th. So my question is to you other guys with I6's that have been dyno'ed.. what is the range that your cars make peak power. I'm thinking that there could of been a couple of more kw in her before the fun limiter kicked in.

O.k. there seems something wrong here, manuals shoudlnt be speed limited and so my guess would be that it either has a auto ecu in it or somethinfg is wrong

I thought the auto's were speed limited not manuals? ne way my XR6 (auto) hit peak power at 108kph, not sure about what the RPM was at but im guessin it was at the limiter in 2nd gear mabe.

All Non XR's had speed limiters, regardless of auto or manual. My car ISN'T an XR6.
It is a factory manual and has a manual ECU, and nothing is wrong. The reason for the speed limiter wasn't due to the box (AFAIK it was either the auto XR6 or Auto XR8 was also speed limited) but due to the tail shaft falling apart at these high speeds. The XR's had a single piece (??) shaft and were alloy, and could withstand the higher speeds.

I thought all the non-Tickford cars were speed limited (regardless of tranny type) because they wern't capable of over 180, were the Ticky's got a different tailshaft and what not which is why they're not limited

prehaps they changed in the ef el range, cause i know of a few eb ed that can exceed 180, my manual does, and my old xr8 auto did too, both eb's.

you may be right with the eariler models. My knowledge is limited to EF/EL. It was only recently that i learned the EB I had a 3.9L in it!

E-AU series generally made peak power from 4750 to 4900rpm or in the XR6 about 5000rpm. peak torque 3000rpm or 3150rpm in the XR6 and 3500rpm in the VCT.
Even mildly modded cammed street motors usually peak around 5000 to 5300rpm. With a cam and head work on a streetable motor the peak doesn't go much past 5300rpm it just holds on more strongly till the 5700rpm limiter. Ford weren't entirely silly 3.23 diff manuals will peak in fourth just before the speed limit. Auto 3.23 in third 4900rpm at 180kmh. Its only the 3.08 diff auto cars geared to get the best economy for fleet buyers that were totally nobbled by the stupid gearing. |

edit: For some strange reason I thought i had a 3.25 diff.. but it appears to be a 3.23. i'll check it tomorrow

Aren't EF/EL XR's both manual and auto speed limited to 255kph? For some reason that sticks in my mind. Thats if you can get one that high

Thats probably when you red-line 5th gear. Not an actual speed limiter but a rev limiter. That's just my guess.
