OK guys,

I've done just about everything now without changing my STD cam or diff...

...which should I do first?

1. Mild Cam (any suggestions as to type, and where to get it ...in WA preferably?)

2. 3.45:1 Diff

Don't know which one to do first, so any suggestions appreciated!

probably the cam first so u can have some fun with it hehe espescially with the single spinner then whack the LSD in but since it costs roughly the same get 3.7 or even 3.9 gears rather than 3.45

I heard that anything more than 3.45 means that you lose top end power i.e. great off the line, but loses it over a distance...what do you think?

Also been told that 3.45+ will be worse for economy!

Just that a lot of people on this site have told me not to go above 3.45...

from what i have been told 3.45 isnt a sensible choice,
good for drags and what ever, but not convenient..

but go with the cam mate

just guess its another its up to u in the end.

Increasing the diff gearing will reduce your economy BUT not noticeably UNLESS you are driving the car hard..the reason for this is it will make your car acclerate harder and quicker the only down side is u reduce your top end....but who gets to drive the falcon often at well over 220km/h....so its just comes down to what u do with the car...is it just street use...or do u run it down the strip often and round the track ?

3.7 would be fine and better for street dragging with the added off the line take off improvement....3.9 also wont cap ya top end too bad im not sure of the exact km reduction but any higher isnt probably a good option.

You will love the LSD tho

3.45 is fine for the street, in either a manual or an auto. I have just changed to 3.91 from 3.45 and it has hurt economy but not as much as you would think, but i didn't build it to use less fuel.
You wont "loose" top end, but your top speed will be reduced with the 3.9 gears. If you are considering track work, 3.9 is perfect, and for roundies(circuit) work, 3.7 would be good. Its all up to you
Brett

Well, I don't really intend to drag around town ...but would like to up my grunt a little to give these commies & ricers a decent run!

Would a stage 2 cam be a straight changeover, or would I need new valves etc etc?

Would the cam still work fine with my STD diff? (I have AUTO, with maybe a 3.08 or 3.23 single spinner ...not really sure!)

Cheers for this guys, this is a real help...

Yeah, my car's now my 'Weekend warrior' as I have a company car.

Just wanted something that would give me noticeable power increase for street (& the occasional Traffic light / highway battle) without significantly upping my fuel economy!

Maybe 3.7 is the way to go, as 3.45 may not produce a noticeable change?

Just had a thought ...would a 3.45 or 3.7 interfere with the operation of my shift kit, or would it work better?

if i was you goin the cam id get the 3.7....the 3.45 gears u wouldnt notice it too much but the LSD factor u will just in take of traction and corner grip espescially exiting.

Youd have a 3.23 single spinner

Any idea roughly what I'm up for, for the cam & 3.7 with LSD?

So you'd def recommend a stage 2 cam? (I would prefer an easy install option!)

yeah stage 2 cam would be the better option then....idle wise there fine i think the stage 3s arent the best when it comes to easy peak hour driving...

LSD centre with 3.7 gears i think is round the 1K-1.1K mark fitted.

Cam :

$280 for any stage RPD/Alted cam with $30 refunded upon a servicable cam returned
$250 High Performance Crane Cams valve springs matched to our cam specs
$130 Rollmaster vernier cam gear for the bigger jobs

Thats if u want the whole shibang....probably worth doin if ya keen and dont mind the extra money...
