fnp i have read many magazines that say the xr6 turbo cat back and cat are one of the best exhausts theyve ever seen come out of a factory production car, so im not suprised.
if you race your car down the quarter mile the only time your motor should be under 3500rpm with a ba i6 is the begining of first gear Munch what you dont understand is that thers not a whole lot you can do to the barra interms of modifications. they respond to mods very well. much better then older ford i6's do. a 3 inch exhaust, decent extractors and a cai should see a barra doing 160rwkw+. OBS35N there a a few members off aff that are getting buy very well with 3inch catbacks on ba's and e-series

on a NA car 3" is too big u need backpressure. 3" zrsts are for turbo cars cause they need the flow... i disagree

a 2.5in system with a good muffler and mandrel bends should easily support up to 180rwkw, and i have seen many cars with over 200 still running a 2.5in system....running a 3in system on a relatively stock I6 or even an I6 with mild work is pointless

No thats incorrect. Backpressure is a myth thats carried on from the old carbie fitted vehicles that would burn valves because they could not adjust fuel delivery when needed. The less backpressure the better !!! But yes, fitting an oversized exhaust hurts flow because of the larger area and no power to push it out meaning less velocity.... but nothing to do with backpressure.... |

Right on the money. Greater cross sectional area means less exhaust velocity therefore causing exhaust gases to have cooled more and become more dense. The volume as air cools is also slightly less, but the density of the air has a far greater impact as the engine has to work harder to push heavier exhaust gases through the system. Keeping a smaller diameter pipe keeps velocity up, however too small and the engine will be choked.

Dan, my XT had the usual breathing mods and a custom edit to make that 185rwkw. It did a 14.4 quarter mile with a shiftkitted auto and standard diff.
There's an even better reason for not getting a 3" exhaust though.. if you do get one you will have a cannon on a Falcon.

Nice nice. Im still tempted to try some NA mods on my car before putting the turbo on.
He doesnt need a cannon if he gets a 3 inch exhaust. XR6 turbos dont have cannons and neither did 3 of my older turbo falcons. |

Heres the JMM article which claims to get 180kw @ wheels from the n/a BA falcon for $2500 or 168kw @ wheels for $1500....
Note this in the article: "And the 3 inch exhaust upgrade? Well, at the time of writing, JMM were yet to see any extra power over their 2 ½ inch system. At around 180kW at the wheels, we’re told the DOHC Ford six is crying out for a new set of camshafts. JMM is currently working on this" |

Blah blah blah blah, get over it 4dlvr, i reccomend just going to a few local exhaust places and asking what they have as their best reccommend system for a BA N/A six, they are really helpful and will offer you a range of products etc.
I got a qoute on one for a 2.5" cat back with 2 mufflers from 3 shops all stating and qouting the same sort of system. All said single muffler on a twin cammer is just too stupid, sounds rediculous.
