Which head is better; that from an AU series 2 (more lift on the camshaft) or one from an EF? Which one has better airflow through the ports?
When shaving a head, what's a reasonable amount to shave off? 40 thou (just under 1mm). The car runs on LPG. |

AU has smaller ports, bigger valves. EF flows slightly more stock, but AU is best bet for porting.
AU cam selection is somewhat limited however due to rocker ratio

So if I don't want to port, it sounds like the EF head is the slightly better bet. A crow cam is destined for it too, so the greater airflow (s**t all though) will be appreciated.
Alright, thanks a lot for that. How about the head shaving business? |

im not sure if crow cams even do a cam for a AU head
head shaving, yea, good for upping the compression, but then your limited to using 98 octane fuels. if you dont wanna port, best bet is of course the tickford head. bigger exhaust valves, better port shape standard. But there's not that much in it. im yet to meet anyone happy with a crow cam. Lots of people run Wade regrinds/billets, newest thing out here is the ALTED range of cams.

So no one you've met has yet had anything good to say about Crow cams? What's bad about them? Do they lack top end or bottom end torque?
The one I have has a powerband from 1100-4400rpm. Sounds like it lacks a bit of top end. I want it for driveability, however, plus my car is tickford dual fuel. LPG suffers from top-end, so I may as well chase bottom-end gains. I had an AU2 head, which was sent in for repairs (got it off eBay). It cost me $250, but it turned out to be a dud. Apparently cracks everywhere beyond repair. It looked fine to me! So me has to use the EF head, which I suppose isn't a bad thing. Just means my car's off the road for 2 weeks or so. |

As far as cams go, I don't think there's a huge difference between them unless you start getting picky. I could be wrong, but I'm thinking the difference would be where the power gain is made. Surely they all do give gains somewhere in the rev range?
The difference between cams of the same sort of spec may be about 5-10rwkw. Depending on how much this means to you, it may not be an issue, so long as there is significant gain. Just don't expect too much, and you won't be disappointed. |

The Wade 1604 only has half the lift of a Crow cam 2222549. I'm assuming it's a pretty mild cam designed for high torque and good idle quality. It's nice to have good idle quality, actually, but it should be alright until you get pretty serious with cams.

Haha well.. Frazer n I are having a RWHP battle but yeah as u all no he's will be using that other motor soon so things will prolly change. Anyway on the dyno Fraz got like 162 or 163 cant quite remember but he has everything the same as me modded but also had SVO's enlarged throttle body with Crow Cam and I have the Wade
I got 168... dunno if diff ratio comes into it much but yeah.. thats it

Yeah Crow do make a cam for the AU heads. |

I dunno if the throttle body would improve anything, and if so, I dunno by how much. Sounds like it is mainly the cam, though I guess there are still many factors you could take into consideration.
It's a bit hard to compare a Crow cam to a Wade cam if they're designed for different power outputs in the first place. I just dunno. |

It certainly sounds good though, and it's good to hear you're happy with it too. It's not nice when things don't work like you want them to.
