My mechanic was doing the head gasket of my EL last weekend. Took off the intake manifold and we saw a sensor towards the back (firewall/passenger) of the engine. When viewed from Radiator side it is fitted on the right side under the intake manifold. It was fitted to the engine block upper side near the Cylinder head beside the cylinder no.2
from the firewall side. It looked similar to coolant sensor in shape.

My car is 2/98 model Falcon EL . Yes, I have used an AU gasket !!

Pls advise on which sensor it is as Ford guy could not tell me although we were looking at the parts drawing on his spare parts computer. It was not there at all.

Thanks.

If it is at the back of the engine it's the knock sensor. If it is near the no.2 cylinder the only thing around there is the oil pressure switch. Hope this helps ya

Knock Sensor.
Do not remove or manipulate. Its safe to remove the eletrical connecter however.
There torgued up to a certen NM so the sound/vibrations transfer into it.

The engine uses this to look for Detionation or Pre Detination. Then ajusts Timing to suit.

The Oil Pressure Sensor is down the bottom of the block closer to the Oil Filter and its got a Single Wire running to it. It functions as a simple on/off switch on Base Model Engines.
And on Luxuary model cars it has a pressure sensitave verable pentonometer incase in a 1 inch long housing that changes the pressure guage on the dash.

The on/off version is similar in shape but about 1/8 a inch long

That one sounds like the IAT (inlet air temp) sensor - on the BBM it sits under the throttle body.
The knock sensor and IAT use the same type plugs, so on an EF/EL, the looms can be close together when everything is disconnected, so be careful not to mix them up.

sounds like when they moved the coolant temp sensor to the rear of the head in au's and possibly hybrids ?

intake temp & coolant temp sendors look the same... from the outside.
