Hi.
I am trying to find someone who has weighed their AU XR6 Manual NON IRS on a weigh bridge? A figure with approximate fuel load and any heavy options like sunroofs would be helpful. Thanks!! |

not a au xr6, but I weighed my old ed xr6 for engineering when it was supercharged and it was 1620kg.
and my au xr8 weighs 1720kg |

I am surprised the ED was that heavy. Did it have alot of options? Auto?
Ford claim the AU XR6 Manual Live Axle is 1530 Kerb Weight The XR8 sounds about right. I guess the IRS and V8 is worth probably 150kg or more over the 6 with live axle |

The ed at the time was manual. Had power windows ghia leather.
The xr8 is auto. The rego says the xr8 weighs 1470kg... I wish lol |

Interesting. Seems that the 1530 figure would be a little optimistic then.

Hats interesting. I knew it didn't include fluids. Didn't realise it did not include the Jack and spare etc.

Grab a new car and put it over the weighbridge and see what I mean. Listed kerb weight will be alot less than actual.

That doesn't surprise me I guess.
I will put another question to you guys then. What would the difference in weight be (same gearbox) between an AU XR8 with IRS and an AU XR6 with a live axle? What would the extra rear end components and engine be worth? I am think I about using an AU as a track car and trying to work out what base I am starting with. I know the AU XR8 weight with iRs as I have one and have weighed it |

i would say about 100-120kg.. irs weighs about 80kg more then live axle and the 50l is only 20-30 ish kg more than the 6 cyl..
something to consider is the irs cars have a much better weight distribution over the live axle cars, as well as the v8 engine is shorter and again while slightly heavier the weight is further back compared to a 6 cyl. imo making the v8 with irs a better all round balanced car.. |

That's a very good point. Hadn't considered that. My xr8 is a very nice thing to drive. the best falcon I have personnaly driven. A beam axle six might be a different story.
Maybe I should be looking at an IRS VCT manual. There seems to be a lot more for sale too. Just a shame about the extra weight and i don't think the IRS will help much on the track. Hill climbs maybe?? Here's another one for you guys. I know the BF Turbo brakes bolt on to my XR8 front and rear. Only a spacer required on the rear. Do you know if the rear brakes are still interchangeable between BlVD Turbo and the live rear axle? |

yes, as well as my xr8, we actually have a au xr6 live axle that has the bf turbo rear brakes.
in this case the ba/bf ute/station wagon backing plates were used meaning the bf calipers bolt straight on with no mods or "spacers".. |

Excellent. That's good news. How do you find the XR6 HP? Handling, performance etc? I haven't driven one but I am hoping it will make a good base for a budget track car.

actually its a good car to drive, I found it to feel a little more lively than my old vct au, probably because lighter with live axle.
compared to the irs it can feel a little toey on hard bends if you push it, it feels rather light in the rear where the irs feels more planted and heavy "obviously" lol I guess they both have there pros and cons, irs - pro=you have handling con=weight and expensive parts. live axle you have. pro= lighter and less parts make it cheap and easier to repair. con= does not handle as good as irs. |

Thats great info thank you again.
You said you modified an eseries, they are my other option and ae much easier to find. The big problem with them is brakes for track work. Do you know of any companies that sell front brake kits for them that arent worth a kings ransom? Such a shame the AU front end wont convrt across. Im sure some of the AU parts could be used in the rear but the front is the problem. |
