got this reply to a question i asked,,
The XR6 cam that applies to the EA through EL is the same as a standard cam. Its' only till you go to the AU series that the XR6 cam is a "hotter" cam than standard. In other words, you'd be wasting your time. Cheers Chris WADE CAMS so what is going on, ,i have been lead to believe that installing the ef/el cam in the ea will make a difference,,will it or won't it

my brother has an EF, 5 speed manual, supposedly with XR6 cam and chip, and it flys, kept up with my old AU2 XR8 UTE, bloody nice car. So i would beleive that the XR6 cam is better than the standard cam. Best people to ask would be ford wreckers or even ford themselves.

Lift and everything is the same, i think the ramps differ, which is maybe why the valve springs are heavier.

the ramps are where all the power comes from. Its the dwell over the nose of the cam that really matters and this is why Brendan Mock claims that its useless giving out lift and duration figures for JMM cams. The ramps will greatly increase power if they are steeper but its a balance between power gains and valve float. Ford would have invested thousands in to developing the XR6 cam so that it still passes emission laws but gives a healthy power gain and a friendly idle. So what Chris from wade is saying may be right about the lift duration figures, but the performance is a different story.

Duration and lift are different on the EBII/ED 4.0 and XR6 cams, that's straight from the workshop manual.
I can't imagine EF/EL being any different |

the only difference between stock EF cams and EF XR cams is the duration
lift is exactly the same.... this is taken from the workshop manual.
