Parents: 1994 ED xr6 wagon. Stock with 2.5" catback stainless steel exhaust. 140,000kms.
Mine: 1993 EB2 fairmont sedan. Pacemaker 4499's, metal high-flow cat, 2.5" redback exhaust. 295,000kms Both 4sp auto I know mine has twice as many kms, but still. I would have thought the extractors+cat+zorst would make up for the power difference between xr6 and fairmont, but my parents is VERY noticably quicker, and it's a wagon too...it is heaps more responsive and I reckon would do 0-100 a good second or 2 quicker than mine, it really shoves you in your seat when you floor it whereas mine isn't that great, mine just sounds good lol...mine is on LPG but it's dual fuel, and even on petrol it doesn't have quite as much go as the xr6... I plan to convert mine to manual soon but still.... really missing the raw power of my 180sx, damn p plate laws and mother being a noob driver

a healthy low km xr6 engine will always have more go than a std high km engine..
your fairmont would have either 3.08 or 3.23 diff ratio.. the xr6 will have 3.45.. again helping the xr6 accelerate better... |

1. Diff ratio xr6 is 3.45 vs 3.23
2. The restriction that is on you intake piping for the gas to flow into the manifold 3. The extra weight of the gas tank and all the other bits and pieces it brings 4. Mileage 5. The other car is an xr6 which has more power to start with. . . they are all working against you. . |

get a shift kit and 3.9 diff gears should make it more fun to drive

a manual will make it feel quick (and may actually pick up some time to 100) but a cam will give it more power.
regardless of what you do though, the 3.08 or 3.23 gears suck balls. so if you're really not keen on going a manual, just fit some 3.7 diff gears or something. then combine that with a cam and you should be loads faster

I agree with CJH. The Diff gears and LPG Gear will also cause a noticeable difference.

Well the LPG has made the car so much cheaper to run for the 95% of the time when I don't need the extra bit of power that petrol gives...(lpg system is only a month old, cost $150 for everything brand new installed after rebate)
Diff gears hey...where can I guy them and who can install them? And sorry for noobery again, but how do I see if coil, ht leads and dizzy are alright? I can do basic mechanical stuff myself (I painted my rocker cover last week and did a full clutch change on a mates ae82 corolla) but stuff like diff gears is a bit out of my league

yeah the diff gears have to be done my a diff shop unless you have all the tools and know how at home.
can pull them out of a car at the wreckers for $75 but not sure on fitting cost
