after 5 months and 10'000km of my car not surging, it started again. it only does it when i sit on 100, not at any other speed does it do it. it's pissing me off because i thought i fixed the problem ages ago , any ideas what it could be. the car sort of falls backwards then forwards but it feels really harsh, the revs don't change. all the usual stuff is new sparky's leads etc etc. thanks in advance fellas.......and chicks

Check the throttle position sensor? Or maybe the idle speed control. All found on and next to the the throttle body.

im having surging problems too,
does it all over the rev range and at different loads sometimes its barely noticable (cept for the sound, my exhaust is a bit loud) othertimes it is really noticable (like the car is going back and forwards) and sometimes the car ALMOST stalls, and other times it runs fine, i did a search and made a list of possible culprits: TPS sensor ISC sensor OXY sensor blocked exhaust plugs leads fuel filter fuel pump fuel lines injectors it started in earnest when i got my current exhaust, NEW pacemakers and CAT, but secondhand exhaust but that was abotu the same time my transmission shat itself (the first one) so so much s**t has been disturbed since then its not funny, im starting with checking the TPS, ISC, and OXY (i have others i can try) then new leads+plugs (mine are pretty old) then i suspect it could be my exhaust, its sounds like there is a leak somewhere - but ive redone EVERY possible place it could be leaking, so im thinking blocked muffler

Fuel filter can be a problem. What I would is get a bottle of Nulon injector cleaner (500ml, 3 tank treatment). When you car is nearly empty on fuel go to a BP and pour in the 500ml nulon stuff int he one tank and then proceed to fill the car up with Ulimate 98. Drive around until the car is nearly empty again and then change the fuel filter. That way when its cleaning your fuel system you dont end up blocking a new filter, you can block up the old one and then change it after.
Only get the Ryco Z373 fuel filter. Being an aluminium body it doesnt take as much torque on the fittings to seal it. The steel ones are a pain in the a** and damn difficult to get off. |

i did the fuel filter and it's not that.i'll clean out the trottle body tomoro and have a look at the sensor and idle speed control. anything else i should do while i'm under there? is it worth going to ford and getting them to do a diagnostic test, just to get them to tell me whats wrong then i can fix it.

I had a surge in my auto xr6 turned out to be the transmission got the local mechanic to change the filter and flush about 20l of auto fluid through it. it made it better not perfect but cheaper than $1000 service on it.

found my problem, replaced plugs+leads+fuel filter to no avail, then swapped my OXY sensor for a spare i had sitting around, and its fixed it. Methinks when i had my cat replaced somone used non oxy sensor safe sealant.

I was about to say O2 sensor as my car started doing it a few weeks back but luckily I have a WideBand O2 sensor so it showed it going to 19-20 AFR when it started to surge and then have a little backfire. With the V8 I've got 2 O2's WB in one bank and stock O2 in other bank feeding ECU, so it was pretty easy to see what was going on. But seeing as you sorted it, for anyone else with surging probs check the O2 sensor!!!!!!!!

Where is the O2 sensor anyway.
Sorry for the dumb question.

s**t. its back again, would a slightly blocked exhaust be causing OXY sensors to die?
