Would probably cost a lot to build a new factory as well. The V6 might be better fuel economy ,so they probably don't want the 4.0L I6.

But the Aussie Ford L6 is a brilliant engine for one that's been around in one form or another since the sixties!!
I'm not 100% sure, but it could be the longest serving engine design in the automotive world....Anyone know for sure?

I don't know the specifics of v6 engine production, but I'm fairly sure they would be made in a Ford America plant, or a plant that Ford America significantly owns.
Ford America from a company point of view aren't going to want to pay money to Ford Australia to buy our engine, plus I'm fairly sure would still be cheaper to get the v6 even with exchange rates the way they are.

sadly its not so much about motors as it is about the package of the car as a whole.
V6 FWD = cheaper to produce. America you have to admit has a slightly higher level of throw away consumerism than australia. Not by a lot, we are catching up fast, but cars arn't meant to last in the states. 5 years old? chuck it away and buy a newy! The i6 falcons can go for decades, and a million miles when given decent treatment. Does not fit in with the way the automotive product is consumed in the US. I feel for you guys, I think a humanitarian aid shipment of FPV's need to be sent sateside ASAP. As long as you guys can see your way clear to sending over a humanitarian shipment of 2010 Roush mustangs we can call it even stevens yeah?

I'd say the main reason is due to the US going FWD in most of their car's. V6's, as stated, are much easier to use in FWD setups. Unless the I6 block was re-designed to be able to use a FWD type gearbox & diff as a sump that bolts to the bottom of the block, it would be way too wide to fit in a FWD car.
Sure, the I6 could go in the 6cyl mustangs, and in it's current form found in the FG, would be a nice package for the mustang. Especially the Xr6T engine. There was talk about killing our local I6 & using an imported v6, but i think that would be a bad idea, in a car the weight of the falcon, it really needs the torque of the I6, and we know US car's are designed to be thrown away a lot sooner than our local falcon. Can anyone imagine the revolt from taxi drivers if their v6 powered falcon's were only getting 250,000kms before the engine died? There was someone building a classic 60's mustang with a turbo E series 4lt in it. I reckon that is a nice change from the usual v8 mustang, and iirc the car was originally a 6cyl delivered mustang too. Cheers ToranaGuy

speaking of I6's....funny how the GTR Skylines use an I6, and the Z cars used to use an I6, but are V6's since the 300Z.
FWD sucks.

GTR is V6 now too.
I6 is alot harder to package. V6 can be built lighter, and further back and lower in the chassis for better weight distribution. all the wank about inherent balance is a moot point if you've got a lighter and better packaged V6 that makes the same power torque as an I6.

The V6 in just about every case doesn't make the amount of torque as the I6 though

what V6?
and is that directly the result of it being a V6 or is it less capacity/different bore x stroke/head design/manifold/exhaust. i was talking hypothetical.
