This afternoon, i was about to go to a friends place when my car wouldnt start.

Its a EBII 4.0 auto.

I went to tafe in the morning, and drove home (20min drive) and things were fine. seemed a little sluggish, but i just put it down to the aircon being on.

then when i tried to start it at home a few hours lator, it wouldnt start.

The battery and starter motor are fine, since all the motor does is turn over.

almost as if there is no fuel pumpming in or no spark occuring, so im guessing its possibly the fuel or elec systems.

Does anyone know what else it could be?

and how much its all gonna cost?

Ill be getting it checked by the racv tommorow or friday (gotta join first) and if they cant figure it out, ill have to take it to the mechanics i spose.

thanks

k sounds liek u have fuel
need to check for spark!

take a plug lead off no 1 plug and what a screwdriver in there and put it near some metal, get someone to try and start the car if you have spark u should see some "arcing" of spark from the screwdriver to the body of the car if this is the case then somethign else is wrong

I have a similar problem. The mechanic says a "Hand " signal appears on the instrument panel and the Ford service centre says that it is in security modem or something like that. But they don't seem to be sure what the problem is.

hey champ, the same problem happened to me a few months ago.
in my car it toke a few days to diagnose but it ended up being my fuel pump.... do this and tell me how u go.........

1-put keys in ignition
2-turn keys until red lights come on, remember dont start the car!
3-when the red lights come on, u should hear the pre-pump (fuel pump) make a noise.... u should hear a sound from the back of the car - make sure its quiet around ya otherwise u will miss it.....
4-if u dont hear it the chances are u have a f**k up fuel pump.

i just bought a fuel pump from repco - about $150 and replaced it my self.
but another thing i might add, the pre pump is in the fuel take...... u need to access it via the boot..... take all the carpet out and have fun brother!!!

update me?

well yeah if it was feeling a bit sluggish then maybe the fule pump was on its way out and now its gone like some one said hit the fule pump and usually it will get going again not always. or pull off a lead and get some one to crank it and put the lead onto a earthed bolt eg strut mount. see if it has a good spark so at last jump 2 cm. they are the two most common problems if its no spark then do a coil resistance check then dissy then crank sensor

I had a thread in here but i can't find it now but my ef had a problem of some morning only crankin over but no go ,eventually it might go except when it got towed to auto elec whom did some resoldering of bcm and replaced fuel pump relay.I was waiting to see if it fixed problem but a week later same again ,forgot to tell you i checked spark at time and had none .I went back to auto elec and he basically said he had no idea so it was left to me so i checked a few things under bonnet inlet manifold ,maf etc but still did it so i thought i'd try something different maybe it was a mechanical problem like something dirty as i had recently replaced harmonic balancer and now had an oil leak which got all over front of engine including crank angle sensor so i cleaned off all the oil and since then the car starts perfectly ,it has been weeks since ,Maybe the sensor doesn't work properly when it is dirty like the spark on a mower, if condition changes i'll let youz know hope this helps maybe yours is dirty as well. :?

haha e series falcons ya gotta love em, driving back from perth all is fine had to make a couple of stops on the way, its about a 200km journey about 15-20km from home i notice me car is a bit strange, 1st thought was its gone into limp mode alright then, next thing high revs no power ok, then she died. Try to start it and noticed the fuel pump wasn't cycling hmm, towed the car home and were fuking round with it, pulled the fuel pump relay off cut the top off and noticed that it was pulling in but not makeing contact. And so that was the problem for sum reason it decided then and there not to make contact anymore. So a new relay and its right as rain.

Yeah I am not sure if ya get the same thing with earlier E series but with my EL it will not wont to start sometimes. It is like an Electrical Gremlin. What happens is you start her up a few times in a row and its fine then say the third start she wont kick over and just keeps cranking then you finally wait for a while then it will go then it will be fine for the rest of the day after that. Sometimes this will never happen for weeks and then one day out of the blue it will do it. Weird :? :?
