Recently did the head on my EL (non-hybrid). Picked up a reco'ed head off Ebay, I was hoping it would be a bolt off/bolt on job, but wasn't so lucky.
Turned out the replacement was an EL hybrid head, so I ended up just getting the old one shaved and pressure tested (all good!) rather than trying to hunt down replacement cam and rockers. So, I now have a fully reconditioned EL hybrid head to sell. I would like to know if I can sell it as a 'suits EL hybrid or AU', or whether it has to be just EL hybrid.

don't see why it wouldn't fit a non-hybrid anyway?
i'm running an AU head on a 3.9 bottom end. as long as you use the whole head, cam, rockers etc out of the hybrid head it should bolt straight down. You CANNOT mix non-hybrid rockers with hybrid cams etc |

yeah all the actual heads are interchangeable from EA to AU, you just have to use ALL AU valvetrain or all E series valvetrain.
You just CANNOT mix them under any circumstances as they have different rocker ratios |

Is there any gain from fitting a stock au head to say a ef?

Fortunately I figured the 'no-mix' rule prior to putting the EL cam and rockers on the head with hybrid valves fitted. The caveat on what you have said comes in the valve stem sizes, the later ones being smaller. So you couldn't put an AU cam/rocker/valve set onto the casting from an EA without sleeving the valve guides. One engine shop told me that you cant buy the old valve size heads anymore, and they have to bore them out to fit the old valves when they replace a cracked head. Thanks again. I will advertise it as an EL hybrid /AU head with valves.

not too sure if there's any gain in fitting an AU head to an EF.
From memory the EF's had one of the best flow rates of all the heads (non XR6). That i'm not positive on though. I mainly used one because it had 200,000 less km's than mine did and mine was shagged |
