I'm interested in getting a Stage 3 camshaft put into my 4L EL Ghia from the blokes at CMS.
But... I'm not sure if it will be a straight swap of camshafts. The "Stage 2 Cam and Head Package" contains: Quote: "CMS Stage 2 Head & cam package is a great intro for your i6 performance upgrades, defiantly a great “bang for buck’’ deal, guaranteed increase in torque & power. What you get is.... Fully serviced head New heavy duty valve springs Oversize exhaust valves Ports deburred (only) Reground stage 2 cam & shims New vernier cam gear Inlet & exhaust mods are recommended as part of your upgrades, this package is also ECU friendly and has a near stock idle.......a proven performer!" Now, I'm very certain that is what I have. But, being power thirsty and a stereotypical teenager, I yearn for more power and a lumpier idle, so I'd like the Stage 3 CMS Camshaft. The thing that points me in the "No mate, it won't run... dcikhead" direction is that the Stage 3 Cam and Head Package says: Quote: "CMS Stage 3 Head & cam package is one of our biggest sellers. The huge gains due to its specific porting make this a favourite and is still great value for money & a must have in unlocking that extra hp! What you get is.... Fully serviced head New heavy duty valve springs Oversize exhaust valves Minor & specific Porting Reground stage 3 cam& shims New vernier cam gear Inlet & exhaust mods are recommended as part of your upgrades, this package is also ECU friendly & has a lopy idle, ISC & TPS mods are required.......a proven performer!" Am I in over my head (pun) or can it be done without too much hassle? TL;DR: Can a Stage 3 CMS Cam fit into a Stage 2 CMS Head?

yes, you can run the cms3 cam in the cms2 head no worries.. the cms 2 head already has decent valve springs to handle the 3 cam..
not an auto friendly cam though.. |

wont idle well in gear and will not perform untill around 2800 rpm, almost like having lag without having a turbo..lol
would work real well with a high stall or much shorter diff gears like 3.9:1 |
