You'd have a battery where your ADR approved factory standard airbox needs to go
You'd also have it running over the engine and exhaust altho im sure that could be addressed.

if your pod filter finished there i'd be a bit worried especially if its not in a box.
I did this to mine a few months back, and ran some plumbing to the front brake duct cut out on the front bar. these are the only pics i have of it currently.

Hi Guys,
About the flow for Air or Vapour. I've got a mate who is an Engineer (Diesel), Mechanic, Fitter Machinist. Nick from Kincumber Mufflers on the Central Coast if you need to know. We made new pipes for my TRX850 and the rules were: 15% loss of flow for every 90deg bend. (about 1.66% per 15 degrees) So if you have a 3inch pipe with 3 x 90 degree bends the maths are. 3inch pipe = 75mm pipe 1. 90degree bend from 75mm pipe = 75x15%=11.25 loss 75mm - 11.25mm = 63.75 remaining 2. 90degree bend from 63.75mm pipe = 63.75x15%=9.56 loss 63.75 - 9.56 = 54.19mm 3. 90degree bend from 54.19mm pipe = 54.19x15%=8.12 loss 54.19 - 8.12 = 46.07mm total loss for 3 x 90degree bends is 38% of total flow!!! Thats why drag cars have shotgun pipes. Mandrel bends drop the loss from 15% to about 10% Coatings can reduce it further to about 8% Hope your not too confused. |

The above rules only apply if your using the full flow of the pipe.
If you've got a lawn mower with a 3 inch pipe hangin of it, you would not experience the same losses because your not filling the pipe fully with exhaust gases and then trying to change its direction with a bend in the pipe. |

Everybody has a theory and it dose not always work.
1 On the first Dyno day Jase increased his reading 10kw and won by fitting a mandrel bent pipe and pod filter pipe over the std one used earlier. 2 If you remove the pipe and have just the throttle body you remove all piping there for no restriction more power. Last dyno day Hyena did this no change.Before you say hot air that is true. 3 People cut holes under guards and fit pipes to the front to give possitve pressure but this only works above 140kph as proven by car racers. 4 turn the top of the manifold 180 degrees( as per drift F6 by ford) and you would only have one to contend with one bend 5 Fit a shacker to the bonnet with a cold box and pod filter this would remove the bends issue also the hot air and will give you positive pressure. It is the only thing that anyone has not tried on this forum. This is what I have said when this site first started and was told that to cut up a bonnet is a waste but people have done that and more. This is just my thoughts. Darren

why dont ford design a better manifold, too many bends i think, the v8 ones are good, but the 6's have a big loop around. as was mentioned earlier, what about facing the intake to the plenum around the other way, when i got the custom intake done on the au they suggested cutting it and facing it the other way(towards passenger side). im not an expert on plenums...

The ford 6 manifolds are very efficient (Far more efficient than the windsor v8 manifolds, not sure about the boss). The bends may look restrictive but are not. I suspect the throttle body faces the way it does because it gives better entry into the runners.
You cant really compare what they did on the drift F6 to the NA cars because intake manifolds in turbo cars follow a different set of rules.

i found the biggest gain in modifying the inlet pipe in the el was cutting out the inside diameter of the adaptor plate on the back of the air box where the hose clamp is, that increased the diameter out of the air box from about 55 to 75, the plastic pipe that fitted into that was a restriction at about 55 as well, so just a replacement of that section of pipe up to the flex bend will make a big difference...

i have a bit of ally sheet directing the top grill into the air inlet to create a bit of a ram flow effect, dunno if it does anything, i figure it must do something at high speed...
