WTF is a battery snorkel? what does it do?

my guesstimation is in that plastic box that the battery sits in, there is little pipes. These are connected to bigger pipes
 My thoughts are that these are to provide a bit of ventilation to keep the battery cool and dry.
or alternatively, i could be completely wrong

My thoughts are that these are to provide a bit of ventilation to keep the battery cool and dry.or alternatively, i could be completely wrong bingo! the snorkle just directs air around the battery to stop it from getting too hot....... i'd advise against removing it cos a friend took his out and killed a few batteries in quick succession..... it all stopped when he put the snorkle/shroud back on it

EFs and ELs had them under the battery, going down to under the bumper. I think most of them fell out after the first year though, because they were held in by one self tapper, and I used to see them lying around on medium strips.

the plastic box that the battery sits in provides cooling to the battery and to an extent insulates it from the engine bay heat. By keeping your battery cool, it extents the life of the battery. cheers

All of my battery snorkel system is still in place on my EL.
It must work, coz I only replaced the factory fitted Motorcraft battery a couple of months ago. That battery had lasted six years.

You've got it, everyone should put a tickford battery snorkel on. Yeah theres one on my car, and it goes directly to the side of the battery it didnt take eintstein to figure that out, (well i figured it out so how hard could it be for someone older than me)

There is an oval shape hole in the battery shroud, that must be where it goes. Any one got a picture of one? Please

Look at the left hand side of the bottom of the front bumper, you'll be able to see it. It isn't really very big but mine is there.
EDIT: left hand side when looking at the front of the car !
