Hey Guys I'm a Newby on the forum.
I have an Xe Falcon sedan & want to do the Barra Turbo conversion. Iv recently acquired a Ba Turbo engine that has a bent Conrod. I have access to Barra engines low km natural aspo. I want to transfer all the turbo accessories over to another engine. I'm not sure which one to use. I can get Ba Bf & Fg I was told to use an Egas engine. But not sure what the differences are. I am hoping the Fg engine will be suitable to take the Turbo. The Fg engine is approximately 60,000 km old. The other question is Engine Mounts. Few people have said Xg engine mount saddles will work with the 4 lt multi point engine mounts and brackets. Is this the case and will that work. I have a EL XR6 T5 gearbox. I can get an Au T5 bell housing clutch fork and Flywheel. Will the Au parts work on the back of the Turbo Engine? With the fuel system, will the XE Efi fuel pump assembly give enough fuel delivery. I was planing on upgrading the fuel line to 3/8 same as the BA Bf With The Engine Ecu it has security and is matched to the BCM. Can that be unlocked and modified to just run the engine management system required to run in the XE. This is my first hurdles I would love some advise to start with. I hope you guys can help Thank You. |

ok so I can answer most of your questions as I am looking at this myself:
so the best bet is to strip the turbo motor down and see how the inside looks. if it hasn't put a leg out of bed or scored the bore then it may be alright to use. if your turbo motor is out of a BA then I would stick to using a BA/BF engine for ease of fitment. Egas engines were fitted with the stronger rods as the early turbo motors also but even then they were weak. The N/A motors would need to be rebuilt to be reliable. fuel system will need to be upgraded, most guys use an external fuel pump over a rising rate fuel pressure regulator. Even the BA turbos use them chasing bigger power, best to be safe then sorry. The AU bell housing will bolt up no worries, then you can still use the cable clutch setup. biggest problem is the t5 gearbox was weak, guys have run them for a while but 3rd gear seems to be the weak point. best bet is to go a 6 speed which were stronger. I own an XG myself, best bet is to do a quick search on google, I know there is an xg ute and even XE/F with this conversion done to check your engine mount situation. The BA ECU does require flashing to remove security to be able to start them, as I said though google to see what the guys have done. Hope that's a starting point for you |

The Turbo Engine I have has got a bent Conrod and the bore is damaged.
That's why I'm using a different long motor. I didn't think the Fg engine was any different besides the sump. I need to use the Turbo sump anyway for the oil return. The reason I want to use the Fg is because it's low Km and it's only $250 Where I'm getting it from there are about 15 engines there. The Ba Bf engine are around 150 km or higher. So the Egas engine should work in my situation then having the stronger conrods right? I'm only going to run fairly standard boost. So it shouldn't over load the bottom end to much. What engine mount set up are you using on your XG ute? |
