Have you thought about just buying an Exhaust manifold Gasket - Will be much easier to put against the existing extractors...

wont fit, x series iirc is a crossflow design and has different exhaust outlet locations

Yeh, heads are very different, I dont think XF extractors will fit... 2nd hand Eseries are pretty cheap, and fairly common, maybe you could sell the XF ones off and buy some 2nd hand EA-AU ones. |

ive seen a few sets of extractors at the wreckers that have crossflow 4.1 and i6 4l drilled head flanges on them.

They arent Crossflow 4.1 and 4.0, They are Crossflow Steel head and Crossflow Alloy Head drilled.
The change to alloy head happened in 1980 or so, and the extractors were multi fit for the steel and alloy heads. Nigel |

They look the same because both motors are very similar. Also because they are y design has nothing to do with what theyll fit. V6 commo extractors are 'y design', will they work ??
From what I understand, what Nigel said is correct. |

Today i compared the XF extractors i have with an EBII exhaust manifold gasket. I found that the bolt pattern for three of the ports (either the front or rear three) are reversed, i.e. rotated 90 degrees. Also, those that are not rotated, have the bolt holes in different locations, about 10mm offset. I think the ports themselves matched up, but i would have to check again to be 100%.
I can't see how you could use them without at least adding material. I can't see it as being worth it unless you're a good welder and have spare time and not much money.

I went back and checked the extractors against an EBII head. All the ports line up, 3 of the bolts line up, 3 of the bolts are about 10mm out and could be redrilled, and the other 6 there is no material there at all. So my advice remains as per my previous post.

Yeah, waste of time trying to convert 3.3/4.1 OHV extractors to suit a 3.2/3.9/4.0 OHC setup. Sell the crossflow extractors and get a set of extractors to suit the OHC, there are lots of people still looking for extractors to suit the crossflows!

local engineer said he can add metal for me and all for $100 so $30 for extractor's and $100 to mod them = $130 cant find any secondhand eseries for that much

Living in Orbost i'm not surprised you decided to get the xf extractors modded. It's not like you have heaps of extractors available to you.
Now i have a mig i might even mod my own xf extractors in the same way, not sure though at this stage. Any pics of what the engineer did would be good, but it's pretty obvious what would need to be done. Did he cut off the old bolt 'tabs' and re-use them?
