A few months after getting my licence I decided it was time to stop driving dad's EF and bought an XF GL sedan. It's a 1986 unleaded model with a 3 speed column shift automatic but i have no idea if it's a 4.1 or a 3.3.
Having driven my mate's 4.1 i suspect i may only be packing a humble 3.3 litres but there are no numbers denoting the engine's capacity on the boot or wings. I looked on the identification plate in the engine bay, which classifies the engine under the single letter E, but without an owner's manual i'm in the dark. Anyone have any ideas? |

fortunately, my book only goes to 84 XF, and the letters are, L,V,X,W & Y.
L & V are 3.3's.

Hi There
Maybe not much use but .... Is it a carby or EFI job ?? If its EFI then its nearly certainly a 4.1. If its a carby version then according to an old 84 - 87 XF Gregory's I have, the carbies are.... 4.1 Auto ..... Weber 34 ADM 1 3.3 Auto ..... Weber 34 ADM 3 EDIT ..... Got bored and did a bit of ferreting around. ASSUMING there has not been an engine swap, then according to XFords.com, "E" is a 4.1 carby job. |
