If you're keen just to have it back together, I guess you could if you have clear access to each head bolt.
Be sure not to drop the timing chain...ie, don't skip a tooth. I've done a head gasket change on my AUII & for memory some of the rockers protrude into the space needed for the socket, to get onto the head bolts. Helical bolt extractors are your best friend for pulling ford head bolts too. It doesn't take long to remove all the rocker assembly bolts, sit it & the cam aside whilst you're working. Be sure to tape the lash adjusters to the rocker arms before removal. Or some may fall out. Best practice is to remove rocker assembly & spark plugs if the head is to be machined flat. New valve stem seal too while you're in there...? |
