so i was driving my ute spiritedly and it died on me make a few clunking noises and didn't want to turn over. pulled the rocker cover and found just pure chaos !!!

Just trying to find out what caused this and the best approach of fixing this catastrophic failure lol. Thinking of getting a mild cam to put in whilst i'm here and stuff.

Did your timing chain skip a few teeth and valves kissed the pistons at high rpm?

Nah it was at about 3,000 rpm when it happened, what caused it was me stabbing the throttle.

also the motor would most of the time rattle through out the rev range, it being most noticeable under load 1,000 rpm onwards to about 2,500 rpm.

is that the sound of a loose cam chain?

also i found a broken piece of cam chain guide about 2cm long

the same thing happened to my brothers ef because his lash adjuster broke and it skipped as tooth

Was the cam sprocket bolt done up nice and tight? Or as mentioned did the timing chain skip a tooth?
