Well I dont know if it is a common problem or not but this is what happened to the distributor drive shaft in my XH.
Here is the new one. Can you see the difference. Dunno how it would happen not like there is heaps of weight being driven off the gear.

yes there is. it drives the oil pump. |

Even still it is not like it spins the cam or anything big.

It spins an auxilary shaft that we had one at work once that partially siezed and ending up doing the same thing.Can also be caused by driving a heavy duty oil pump.Id be checking auxilary shaft.

i also recomend checking the aux shaft.. as if its damaged it will chew out the new dizzy gear..
and excessive play in the dizzy shaft can cause the gears to bind and strip like yours have.. |

Ok will. On closer inspection it looks like it may have been an old fault. The gear is fully worn all over not only in one spot the aux shaft seems OK.

That actually happened to my car Cam... You'll need a new oil pump, dizzy and auxillary shaft. I got two of both shafts chewed out laying around some where because the mechanic forgot to replace the oil pump. So when I picked it up and took it for a test drive the same problem happened.
So did your tacho bounce a bit before it happened and your oil pressure sit at the top? |

OK so on an even closer inspection seems that I may need another oil pump. Bugger it. Thanks all for the advice.

Not "may" Cam... But need. I found out that the shaft is designed to chew out to protect your engine when the pump fails. Saves you on an entire rebuild. But if you have your engine out then why not do a few more improvements. Cali has the BA

Yea cliff and I got permission to put on a body kit and a few other mods. But as far as the XH goes just trying to sell it now.
