I have just put on a new drive belt and tensioner. using the Gregorys manual No:270 as my teacher. I have no Air-con, but there is a pulley in its place for the belt to ride on. Problem is that the pulley sit's lower than what the air-con compressor would sit and the belt is rubbing a little on the tension assembly.
What is the answer....? Is there 2 different tensioners and how do I know if I got the correct one? I've just matched it up with what was already on there..! |

The XH Ute has a specific tensioner, and the normal EF/EL tensioner will cause the issues you have described. The XH XR ute has the same tensioner as the EF/EL cars due to the use of the BBM manifold. Your ute should have the Lob style manifold.

Cheers BenJ,
I think after doing a number of google searches I found an image of the tensioner I need. yes my inlet manifold is as you described and looks nothing like the snail shell version like on the XR models. Thanks for the info.. |

No, you can't mod the tensioner.
But, you can mod the way the A/C pump mounts. You can source the EF-EL A/C pump spacers, and cut them in half and insert them between the EA-ED A/C Pump and bracket, pushing the A/C pump away from the engine. You will of course need a longer belt, and no, I don't know what length. BenJ

BenJ you know anyone who has done it this way mate? would be interesting to see what size belt is required. if it was a size readily available, it could offer a cheaper alternative to serpintine conversions on the log manifold engines. or has the price of an XH tensioner gone down nowa days? |

I know the chap I got the info off was on AFF and there is a doco on it there. I can't recall if he listed what size belt was required, but it wouldn't be hard to use a piece of string once all the hardware was in place to work out the right length.

taken from the other site in case anyone is interested:
Belt 6pk2415 950k6 which can be bought from Burson’s Auto Parts for $70, it’s dear but it’s cheaper than an XH tensioner! |

Ended up buying new tensioner (cov's supplied the wrong one to start with, amateurs). Cost a bit over $300 and the belt was $40 (6PK2400), but worth it in the end seeing I just put a tickford engine in....!

Hi would like to purchase a Belt Tensioner for a Ford Falcon Panelvan 1997, it's hard to get one in New Zealand as the Panelvan was Australian Assembled. The number on it is 95DA6B209
