Hey modders,

Just posting this on behalf of a friend who has just bought a brand new xr5 turbo. its only got 1000k on it and is not fully run it yet. Owner says that it chews the fuel at the mo. Even though it is a 5 cylinder and a turbo she hasnt being wringing its next or anything. It should get better consumption once fuly run in but is there anything else that could be causing it?

Cheers

Andrew

What's the figures she's getting. And waht car she have beforehand. Going from a 3cyl Charade to a XR5T is going to be a bit shocking on the wallet.

But yeah, it'll loosen up as it runs in and fuel economy will get better.

as above, without hearing numbers it doesnt mean anything.

$10 fuel doesnt go as far as it used to you know.

She's getting approx 400k's to a tank normal day to day driving. Not giving ti much either. Factory quoted 9.3 per 100k and at the mo its getting about 10-11litres per 100.

oftern the factory quoted figures are obtained in a wind tunnel so i wouldnt be too concerned about 10-11 per hundred just yet.
would be worth keeping an eye on it and mention something when ti ges taken in for its complementry 3000 tyre kick service.

10-11 and it's quoted 9.3? I wouldn't worry about that much fuel. It could be the difference between her driving style to the testers, or the fact it's a new engine that hasn't been run in.

10-11 litres is not far off the mark though, remember the fuel tank isn't going to be that big on a car that size and also being a turbo he'd also be having a little fun with it and being a little heavy with the right foot

same difference. 10-11 is good fuel economy for a brand new car, especially a 5 cyl turbo XR5. Bear in mind the 9.3 is achieved using Australian Standards testing including some highway running, so if shes in town all the time she ISNT going to get the same economyas that.

To give you some idea my current demonstrator drive car is a standard focus 2L automatic which when i got home tonight had 280km on the clock (only had it since monday) and im averaging 10-11 in that without flogging it. Its just because A - its brand new, and B - the pcm is still learning.

when i drive my parents XR5T around i usually get 400km per tank... and thats boosting it every second i can...

so if my parents drove it, probably around 550km a tank

Remember it's new, so it's going to use less as it goes on.

Give the thing a chance :)

I thought it is the other way around. The older the car, more it drinks. Well i can say that for most of us on here.

Brand new cars tend to use more fuel during the run in period. After that it should settle down a bit.

I've read some cases where its changed by up to 2L.
