The valve springs are red but I doubt if the cam itself has red paint on it. I think the grind is printed on the end where the sprocket bolts on. Physicly you would have to have great eyes to spot a different grind.

Cams right through from ea to el except el hybrid are all the same although the grind may have been tweaked for certain models or variants. If they are not stamped the only way you could tell would be to measure the lobes. I have a customer who is also on another forum that works for wades that maybe able to tell me how to tell the diff.
Other than that where is papasmurf.

yes thats an xr6 cam...
does it have a 92 or 94 before the dt 62 aa..

this first number eg;(92) tells you the year, and the dt means (falcon tickford)..
afaik the 62 50 is just the code for ohc i6..
and yes the factory tickford cams have a red ring painted around the cast part of the cam..

Funny you should ask I happen to have one in the boot of my car here at work, give me a few mins and I'll take a happy snap for you, I have always seen e series xr cams with a lick of red paint on them almost ½ way along between the lobes.

Pic will comfirm or deny, XR cams had slightly more lift and slightly longer duration. This is not visable by naked eye.

cam will look like this, Not trying to be a smart a**, but every one I have ever seen has had red paint on it, early e series may not though. BUT, I have an EB xr cam in my car currently and it had red on it too, and that was out of an EB S XR6, so I can only comment on my experience. Unless at some stage yours has been cleaned, but I don't know why that would be.
