i think u will find the ef's are pretty good reliable cars. (tho im biased) all of the e series can suffer from head problems as well as little things like the central locking stuffing up. all the probs are well documented here tho

as for ya plans, i dont think 5 grand would be enuf for a turbo/supercharger set up

It might be close for one of the snort kits If you installed it yourself and then tow/trailer it to the local performance centre for the tune - the main problem is the ECU may need an upgrade and that is where you will go well over budget.

A better solution would be for you to get an older escort and turbo that - they are simpler engines, there are heaps of parts and there is one going around in Perth that was built for 5k and had 135rwkw - which means it will be a hell of a lot faster than most of the falcons on here. It will also give you a good base for a much larger turbo conversion in the future.

Remember you are only 19 and I doubt you will be able to get insurance for either.

Wouldn't bother with the turbo setup for 5k

A. unless you had contacts for really cheap parts
B. you are able to fit it all yourself
C. you have backup money for stuff like tranny, diff, suspension, brakes etc

For a nice 14.XXsec falcon i would get (assuming its non EF2-EL fairmont or XR6):

- 5 speed conversion
- 3.45/3.70 LSD
- Stage 2/3 Cam with a bit of headwork
- New springs & shocks

That will net you a decent 1/4 time.

Forget getting a quick EF (I count quick as mid to low 14's) for 5k. It's not going to happen, especially if you go down the forced induction route.

And dont be a sheep and do the same as everyone else do something different thats my next project i am looking for a little mk 1 escort. so if anyone knows any let me know!!!

he never said it had to run 14's. I take it this car will also be a daily driver, you should just get a nice ef or whaterver you like and do it up slowly. Forget about superchargers and turbo's untill your at least 21 cause insurence will kill you.

EF, cam, exhaust, maybe 3.45 and 5 spd and youll have a nice sounding car which pulls ok 2

u gotta be different on the road. my little plan was getting an old mini cooper, chuck 4 cylinder in it somehow and turbo it....that would go =D but thats only a dream hahaha.

if u want a quick car id suggest u go for something lighter such as the escort. unless u buy an EF and somehow shed some kilos of it and still keep the frame work intact then go for the EF

phong =P~

how about u get a mini and u put a rotor into it . imagine the sound of the thing lol bob bob bob bob bob bob bbbbaaaaaa. lol

man for 5 grande u wont be able to do a turbo job, and if your spend 5 grand on the car it wont be fast.

best to sell the ef and buy another car , go jap if u want fast somthing with a turbo already on it.

you could make an ef fast with 5 grand. Cam it up, give it a shave, extractors, bigger throttle body, bigger intake, and a better ratio diff. That should be close to 5 grand. But have a look on here how many people have done that to ef's!! be different man. I cant wait to find a project mk1 or something. And dont go JAP!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO you will have nothing but trouble. trust me my old man bought a skyline and everything is so expensive to fix or replace. and also everyone's got them. Good luck mate, And do wat you wanna do. If you like ef's then do one up!!!

For $5,300 you can get a stage 1 CAPA kit for an EF 6 cylinder. This should get you 14sec flat quarter miles. The overall cost of the car should allow you to own it outright and therefore 3rd party insurance will do.

Install it yourself and learn a few things along the way. The kits come with EVERYTHING you need - everything.

Personally i'd go for an EL tho...

Trust me, powerdyne supercharger will make that thing fast.
