Mine gets to about 84 in the ed but that's pushing it hard on rev limits. My mates effy reaches 89 on the digital speedo

Interceptor, no offense but what sort of s**t v8 gets left behind by an auto XF ?!

I think you will find that the XF is in fact an ZL Fairlane which had the EFI engine rather then a pissy carby I6. Although the tranny was an Borg Warner 45 there is nothing special about the box as I used to have an XF wagon with auto & the performance was quite s**t at the low end of the range.

Now the VL Commonwhore that had good low end performance to which Ford finally caught up with in the EA III with MPFI engines & electronic trannies & lock up torque converters (BTR 85)...

My EA did 80 @ 5000rpm, my EL 90 @ 5500rpm and my BA 90 @ 5800rpm. I think a Falcon shouldn't go anywhere near redline though, not even the BA. The old SOHC engines sounded like it would die much past 4000.

This may be a little off topic, since we're talking about road cars. But my dragster tops out at 174.3kph (108.3mph) @ 6600rpm in second gear as measured by the timing gear at the Kwinana motorplex.

I don't know what it does in first gear as the dragster doesn't have a speedo and of course they only measure speed at half track and at the finish line.

Been there, done that, pistons meet valves....yummy!

isn't it called valve bounce or something, when the valve bounces off the seat.
