Guys, I have the premium sound in my NL Ghia and am wondering if I can run my Pioneer 12" Subby off the factory amp? The sub is rated at 600W and 4 ohms, am I gonna overload or fry anything...I just can't seem to find many specs on the factory amp. I guess the other question is if it is ok to run the sub, will it drive it hard enough to sound better than the factory sub ?
Amp specs here: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/p ... lComponent One more thing...when bridging 2 output channels on an amp to run a sub, do you require both input channels to run at full power or is this dependant on the amp? Any help on this guys would be awesome...thanks |

It will work with the standard amp but sounds s**t house. What you should is run another amp for the sub and run the low level input from the standard amp to your new amp. It works good this way as i did it in my fairmont ghia before i changed to an after market system.

not that sub, it is quite inefficient (89dB) when comparing speakers it is important to compare sensitivity because that is what determines how loud it will play for a given volume. If you can find one with a sensitivity of above 93dB you should be okay as long as it has the same resistance or impedance. However the factory amp is not very powerful and worth upgrading the whole lot if you can

the sub will work its good for a cheap option but if you want something thats going to sound really nice then change the factory amp, they really are quite poor

Thanks guys... ran the sub just to see, and yeah...no good, so I hooked up an 800W Amp I had lying around. Sounds much better now! The issue now is the remote signal from the factory head unit isn't strong enough to keep both amps switched on. Anyone else had this trouble? Is the power from this wire enough to run a relay as I think thats what i'll have to use?

just run the wire from the ciggy lighter socket, its an acc source so it can pull a fair bit and itll keep ur amp on, its what i use anyway
