looking at setting up a system in an xr8 ute (not yet owned but need to get ready)

now my question is... i want to run a sq setup... some nice focal splits up the front, and at least one maybe two 10 inch subs up the back...

now here is the hard part, i want to run a pc in the car for mp3's dvds etc (comp screen in dash) how hard is it goig to be to get a 4 channel (preferably 5) amp that can run 2 subs and some good quality splits?

recommendations of brands would be nice too!

sorry i know it doesnt answert your question but how are you gonna fit all that into a ute?? a sq system in a ute always poses a problem and car pc on top.. your gonna have to be real creative...

as for the amp a 4 channel will probably surfise, as you didnt mention running back splits? go down to a hifi shop and have a listen to their demos to get an idea.. but generally your looking at big dollars for big quality..

dont worry about rears, esp in a ute, it will only distort your sound image and sound s**t. Go a 4 ch. ensure channel 3/4 have a low pass filter and can be bridged down to 2 ohms. Depends how much you want to sped on your amp, any pioneer/alpine/kenwood/clarion/JL. work out your budget and then buy to that. Be careful in hi-fi shops, there boards are always poorly tuned and sound nothing like what the product can sound like

i was thinking a v12 alpine amp running the subs now. i have a 1000 watt (at 4 ohms) one available from a friend... guess i should only worry about a 2 channel amp now! the 6 inch splits i tried out the other day dont give a whole heap of lower mid-range, so thats why i was thinking of some rear fills...

Yeah i would suggest the new Alpine v12 amps the 5 channel ones are very good quality and are perfect for the setup you are thinking of.

Also some other brands come to mind are Lighting Audio, JL audio and mabe DLS all very good quality but do cost a bit of dosh as you would expect

how about either the JL Audio 450/4:
75wrmsX2 and 150wrmsX2

or 500/5
100wrmsX2
25wrmsX2 (for rears)
and 250wrmsX1 for a sub

If you et a decent set of fronts then you won't need rear fill, and in a cabin that size I would advise against doing that. Personnally if you are going some alpine amps i would get the alpine R types splits up front, nice little 2 way driver should produce the mid range your after. Out of curiosity what model number is the alpine amp

whats your budget? if u want some good midrange and volume why not get a three way setup in the doors? a ute cabin won't need rear-fill, and 2 X 10" subs will provide ample down low punch. i'd probably look at a high power 2 channel amp for fronts and a decent d-class to run the subs.

between the focals and the alpine type-r's, try to have a listen to both and see which one ur ears like as ur the one that has to listen to them every day :P!

budget ~3/4000 for everything. (not including head unit/pc i want to use)

i like the focals.. i wont use rear fill from what people say, so hopefully if the focals are setup properley i'll get some lower mid range (could just have been that cd also)

the focals sound the clearest and most accurate to me... they also look damn cool!

well aside from the amps, wiring, and speakers/subs. i have a spare laptop i want to put under a seat... then use a vga motorized in dash screen from www.digitalww.com as the input/display for the laptop to play my dvds/mp3's with etc. im still looking at how im going to hook up my amps to the laptop...

so far i have all the wiring, laptop, 1 amp (for subs) and about to purchase the focals) the rest will be purchased when the ute comes :)

perhaps use a mid-range headunit with auxiliary inputs to be the main unit for playing cd's / mp3's / radio while u have the laptop plugged into it. would probably keep the dash tidier for the install. better yet, wait to see the new lcd / dvd / cd screens coming out and use that as ur main unit. that way, u don't have to have the laptop for short trips :)

just a suggestion tho
