sorry if this had been covered already.. but i was wondering if anyone has any pics on how they have installed 6x9 speakers on the back shelf in their EL's..
I know you cant cut the metal away and was just wondering if my only option is the plastic spacers you can buy... (dont particularly like them) Any pics would help... thanks |

ive seen the metal cut away to clear them, dont think its too much of a problem.
and yeah i dont like the look af the spacers. if you dont want to do any of those then just go with a good set of 6" speakers

i agree with fast-xr, go with a good set of 6'' speakers you will much better off. Otherwise you get to much cancellation if you have a sub.

Yes to 6" speakers. No to this cancellation crap. You only get cancellation if you're wired em out of phase, and if your cars acoustics (very rarely) are completely fuked. 6x9s generally dont sound good because of their cone shape. They distort too much. Thats the only thing wrong with 6x9s. If you high pass them like a normal 6" then you're set. |

Another vote here for the 6 inch speakers. I have 6.5 inch in the rear of mine. They are a bastard to fit though. But heaps easier then 6 X 9s.

mate get some mdf and make a spacer only has to be small. a lot smaller than the plastic heaps of s**t, then take it to an autotrimmers and get them to cover it in whatever material u want, looks awesome

Hey mate I got 6x9s in the back of my EF, just cut the metal in the parcel shelf
My mate has the plastic spacers for his 6x9s in his EB and imo it looks ugly. I'm pretty sure its illegal to cut into the metal though. |

all good points guys... but you could do what i did and pull the original carpet back, chuck a spacer down mine was 40mm, grab some foam from your boxes stick it round the spacer, then chuck the carpet back down stick the seaker in wire it up put your srews in then ur done sounds good looks good and best of all no metal cuting and you cant see the spacer

That's pretty much what I have now. Just have a spacer under the carpet as my 6.5 inch speakers are too big for the holes. Need to fix it though as the speakers can move up and down a bit so it can make a bit of a noise over big bumps. Might try the foam idea . . . .

i got 6x9's cut into my parcel shelf mate. i dont like spacers.
but its easier to put 6inchs in. but i love my 6x9's i was in my boot for hours with a 1/8th drill drilling out the holes then cutting them with tin snips.

CHEAP<>CHEAP This has to be one of the best ways I've heard of adding a spacer in. If I did that I would get the foam cut in a triangle shape so it tapers down back to normal. Do NOT go and cut your parcel shelf. |
