I have 6x9's in my EB. I have the spacers to space them off the shelf. But uts really not a whole lot of cutting just a little bit around the carpet and the actual shelf. cant even see at all that they have been cut.

before you make a decision you need to find out if cutting the parcel shel is legal i will almost guarantee that cutting the parcel shelf is illegal as its a structural part of the car

6x9's are for people who want that little more bass but cant afford to do a sub setup! 6x9's have a little more bass then 6" but to get good quality you need to send big bucks for top gear.

I would go for 6x9's, like most people have said they can handle more bass and are less likely to distort and sound like crap.
Also, have you considered mounting them under the parcel shelf and have a spacer ontop of the speaker? And another option is spacers that have a nice bit of a curve in them, they dont look so dodgey. Good Luck,

Pretty much this, amping them will also make a big differnce. use spacers as cutting the shelf is illegal
