ive seen those lil grills on XRs but not on a fairlane or fairmont, ,,,
some sorta option maybe..or just to let a bit more rumble sound in XR cabin

I have an Ef fairmont rear shelf as well as my El xr6 shelf and they both have them......

I had a look at what I thought were oddly placed tweeters from my boot, but as you all have said they are just vents on the parcel shelf from the boot to the cabin.

I don't think they have 2 cones, as you said, not really possible, but I do believe they are 2-Way speakers (whatever that means :p). But yeah, there are only physically 7 speakers. |

No, the original rears ARE dual cone speakers not 2 way, they have a smaller horn shaped cone referred to as a "whizzer" connected to the voice coil at the same point as the main cone.
This type of speaker is the oldest and cheapest style of full range speakers that you can get, they date back at least to the '50s. The fronts are 2 way with the woffers running full range and the tweeters with a 1st order (6dB/octave) crossover.
