Im lookin at an EL Fairmont Ghia, I have heard that some have 8 speaker premium sound system and others have 9 speakers. What is the 9th speaker and where is it. When did ford introduce the 9th speaker?

Im guessing would be a centre channel or refering to the woofer (as they are speakers)....i hadnt heard of that tho.

Isn't it front speakers in the door (makes 2), tweeters in the dash (4 total now), rear speakers (8 total now as the rear speakers are dual cones, so they count them as 2 in 1 type thing - cheating if you ask me, so that makes 8), then if you got the extra sub woofer you have the 9 speaker system.

yeah they are cheating i think - cause if you had a 9 speaker set up in a normal car you would have fronts, tweeter, mids reads and a sub!! which would make an awesome set-up!! but anyway they just say 9 to sound good

my xr parcel shelf carpet has a grill for 2 tweeters in it which would make 4 tweeters,4 6 inches and a sub...9 speakers in total...if they arent speaker grills why are they there?

i dont know.. but anyone with a premo sound can see if theres tweeters in the grille thingys on the parcel shelf.. BUT i doubt another set of tweeters go there... and i dont think a car set up has tweeters at the rear.
I still think its a 7 speaker sytem....

correct - the two rear parcel shelf speakers are counted as four

Two rear speakers are dual cone (2x2=4), two in front doors, two teeetrs in dash and one subwoofer eqauls nine speakers.

I know someone who has rear speakers and has the tweeters in the rear parcel shelf grill as well...so I'm guessing front had 2 x 6" and 2 x tweeters. Rear had 2 x 6" and 2 x tweeters and one subwoofer?

Just bought an EL Fairmont Ghia the other day, as you do, and it has got 9, 2 in the doors, 2 on the front, 5 on the back, of which 1 is a sub and really needs deadening. As soon as the sub is turned up a bit the rear shelf rattles like crazy. What deadenign should I use? and how much will I need? and How much will it cost?

The grilles on the back shelf are just vents I think. Our GLi has them and they are empty and I am pretty sure our Ghia's ones are empty as well. Probably to do with the airflow in the car.

The rear grilles are vents to make closing the boot easier ( doesn't build up pressure on closing).
There is no way you can call dual cone speakers 2 speakers.....they are only 1
Els have 7 speakers at most from the factory.....
