Evening all
Ive never cared much about big sounds in my cars, but i would like a little more bass in my EF xr6. I think it is just the base model system with 6 stacker in the boot. Is it possible or worth while to add an amp and small sub to the existing system? Cheers Tim |

Some amps have the line converter inbuilt (speakers from HU straight into amp instead of RCA's) You would be better off having a boxed sub than installing an 8" sub in the parcel shelf. Some places like autobarn sell sub kits (amp and sub in box) not sure if power cables and fuses are included.

replace the factory speakers for a start, that will give you better response and sound all round, not heaps more bass buy you will notice a difference.
if your not going all out, the free air sub for the parcel shelf and a small amp will go well and not take up any room.

With a little creativity you can fit a 10 under the rear shlef without cutting any metal but be aware that the rear shelf will rattle if you push the sub a bit.....

Or just buy a cheap new H/U as almost all base models have RCA out. then a small sub and amp package. Will be better sound all round with a new H/U.

Sounds like thats the go. What happens with the factory stacker then- can it still be used?

hahaha i was going to do that once........then i thought back of the chair sounds good enough. the factory stacker i dun think can be used because its got its own loom on the H/U end or something? or maybe buy a H/U with CD Stacker capabilities that way u can modify the wiring a bit and fit it to the aftermarket. up to u phong =P~

if u time ur upgrade u can do it in stages, and when your done u will have a nice system. heres the low down on how it can be done in stages, or atleast how id do it
get a new hu, definatly, the factory stacker can be used on most brand hu's. outlay about 200 for a descent hu and just a personal choice for me id be looking for one with mp3 suport altho the std stacker cant read mp3's so thats also something to look at. next change ur speakers, do the front first because thats where ur sittin and itll make the most difference to you and dont cheap out on these because speakers are the back bone of your system, amps and hu's can be changed with technology, but speakers are for keeps, u get good ones and they will stay with you for a long time. get good quality 6" ones here as they fit right into the factory door holes unless u have a series 1 ea, then ur royaly boned and if u want u can go a set of 6.5" components, which sound alot better but cost alot more. they have a cross over, seperate mid range and high freq driver. a good set of 6" will set you back about 200 ish where as their component big brothers round 350 ish. all comes down to personal pref rear speakers come next. again another back bone so pick wisely. bass response isnt really an issue with the rear drivers, because we let the sub handle that and the speakers will most likly be high passd anyway! if you dont want to cut holes id run a high quality set of 6" in the parcel shelf, they sound wonderful on mid high's and wont break the bank, expect a good 200 on these last but not least i can assure u is the sub and amp package now altho before we had the amp the speakers can be run off the hu , i would recomend simply for easy tuning get a good 4ch amp, and run rca lines in to it, run ur rear speakers high passd off the amp, then run a sub bridged and low passd off the other chanel a good amp and sub package (ie not cheap crap) can come in around the 350 mark but bare in mind all this electronics is going to need power...From your battery a amp cabling kit will set you back about $50 from repco for a gu or $75 for a 4gu kit and after all this, you will have a descently built system that will sound nice when tuned well, and pump when needed good luck with it anyway! any questions dont hesitate to ask
